So since 11pm today I've been having irregular contractions. I came to hospital stayed here and got monitored for 5 hours. I was 4cm when I came in, I've been 4 cm dilated for two weeks. I'm still 4cm after being here so long. I am 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant. She said my contractions range from 4-6 mins then 6-8 mins.

Well they are sending me home. Why would they send me home being this far dilated with

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you. I am gettting induced on Tuesday, so I dont have much longer to wait.

Think I was a bit disapointed because a mid-wife told me in private that if I was having any contractions past 39 weeks, the hospital would make me stay because I am 4cm dilated. So, I figured going in there today I was having a baby. But, it ended with alot of frustration, and boredom of waiting around for hours in the hospital bed.

Anxiously awaiting little man's arrival....

Once I fell down in my mudroom and thought my water broke, turned out I peed my pants. Of course my husband had already called everyone, even though I told him not to, and told then my water broke. I dont have any advice, but I thought that might make you feel better. GL

This happened to me. I was MORE than ready to give birth, so I thot!! I spent the whole day at the hospital when I was pregnant with my little girl - thot she was going to be born on my birthday!! They sent me home because things weren't happening as much as I thot!! Well, turns out she waited 15 additional days!!! Stubborn right out of the gate!! lol!!

Sounds like the same is going on with you. Apparently things just aren't really happening as much as you think. Four cm sounds like a lot but you have to get to 10!!

Good luck!!

Yes if it is false labor they will send you home. I can't imagine why you would want to be in the hospital for days waiting anyway. Not the most exciting place on earth and a lot more expensive than a five star.

They won't induce you just because you are there. If they started doing that every woman who was tired of being pregnant would show up on their doorstep.

Whoa, wait! They are going to induce you Tuesday? Have you mentioned that? I went into labor on a Sunday where I was scheduled for an induction on Tuesday. I really was in labor it turns out but when I got there I said I am scheduled for an induction, if this isn't real are you going to send me home only to come back. They said no, since it was so close they would induce me.

Your contractions are slowing down rather than speeding up = false alarm.
You could go into labor tonight, tomorrow or next week.
Some women go to week 40 or 41.
Walk, go up and down stairs, make up some freezer casseroles (they'll come in handy later).
It won't go on forever (although it feels like it for right now).
My dr didn't want me to come to the hospital till the contractions were 2 min apart (and I could not talk through them).
Hang in there!

It's because you are not yet in active, progressive labor where the inevitable conclusion is birth. You're not yet at the point of no return, if that makes sense - if you were in the runaway train part of labor, you would have contractions getting closer, stronger and would be dilating. Better to just go home and let things happen. The contractions could go farther apart, stop entirely for a while, etc. If they keep you, they'll start interventions and those aren't good for anyone. Take a nap if you can. If you can't sleep, then walk around, read a book, fold some laundry, whatever. With my first I was sent home from the hospital because I was having contraction but despite being somewhat dilated and effaced already, and being 41 weeks and 6 days along, I wasn't laboring enough. So I went home for the day. Unfortunately, I had to go back that day for the first part of my induction (which was scheduled to be an outpatient procedure and then I was to come back the next day and deliver) and they did decide to keep me, start interventions and we had my very long and rough induced delivery begin. If I had known then what I know now, I wouldn't have gone back that day or I would have gone for the cervadil and had insisted on going home to wait for labor to progress.

Anyway...have patience! You're very close. Trust that when progressive labor begins, you'll know it. Hope that your delivery is fast and easy and that you meet your little one very soon!

I was dilated 3 centimeters for 6 weeks before my son decided he wanted to come. He came on his due date. I started contractions at 5 am and delivered him at 6 pm the same day. It sounds like your child is getting ready, but why hang out at the hospital for a few days when you could be home in your comfy bed if your child isn't quite ready yet?......at least that was my thinking. I did not even go to the hospital until 1 pm on the day my son was born. I hope it goes smoothly for you and baby. Congratulations.

Of course they sent you home. You're STILL 4 cm dilated. You weren't any more dilated than you were two weeks ago. No progress. The contractions you're having aren't making any progress. You're having prodromal labor, not active labor. When your contractions are irregular and go from 5 minutes to 8 minutes, that's not progress. It's the opposite of progress. :-)

When you're in active labor, you'll know it. You won't be able to speak or breathe through a contraction. Contraction pain will get worse and worse. You won't be able to find a comfortable position during or in between contractions; not sitting, not standing, not laying down. You won't be hungry, you might be thirsty, but nothing will make you comfortable. Walking won't ease discomfort, resting won't ease discomfort.

Once you hit 6 or 7 cm dilated they'll likely check you in, but not 4 cm. 4 cm is nothing. Especially if you're not more than 70% effaced.
