My daughter is 7 years old and is starting to fall out of bed. She hasnt fell out of bed in 4 years and I am a bit worried that this could be a medical problem. Am I worring too much or should I take her to the doctor? Also I am not sure if anyone else has experienced this kind of thing before or not but her feet and hands fall asleep alot mainly her feet and she screams because it hurts. I have talked to the Doctor about it and he said she is probably just sitting on a nerve this has been going on for about 2 years now and seems to be getting worse. Any ideas on what I should do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

As far as her hands and feet falling asleep, the neurologist put her on a nerve medication and it has seemed to help a little. As far as her falling out of bed, we went and bought a bedrail for her bed and it has worked.

I don't know about the falling out of bed but concerning the hands and feet falling asleep, I would recommend taking her to a chiropracter. I have some nerve problems in my neck which make my arms and hands fall asleep. I go to the chiro every 2-3 months and it helps a lot. Please consider this option. Ask around and find one who is legit and trustworthy and it will be worth it.

T., I would get a doctor to refer her to a neurologist...just to make sure it is nothing serious. I wouldn't wait. I would do it very soon. God bless you.

Please, please at least get a 2nd opinion from another pediatrician. It seems irresponsible of your pediatrician to ignore the hands & feet falling asleep for this long without at least getting some x-rays or ordering some kind of tests or doing some sort of referral for you to rule out a pinched nerveor something that can be easily adjusted by a chiropractor. If I were you, I would switch pediatricians if the current one continues to blow this off without looking into it further.
Also, I would go to a pulmonary clinic with a sleep disorder lab to look into her falling out of bed.

My daughter is also 7 yrs old. She just fell out of bed last night. It happens every once in a while. I notice that her feet fall asleep around when her body starts growing. She grows inches at a time. It isn't a slow process. And I remember as a teenager that it hurts when your body grows.. the muscles are being stretched.. the tendens... you may also see if she is or has just recently grown. Are you need to buy longer pants, bigger shoes?

Hugs,
A.

Since this is something "new", I would call the doctor's attention to it. She could be having seizures or a sleep disorder that you are not aware of. It could just be that she is an active dreamer too. I know that it is common for kids to sit funny and have feet fall asleep. Encourage her to look at how she is sitting when it happens, so that she doesn't sit like that, and see if that helps. If you take her to the doctor for the other though, I'd ask if this could all be related in some way. It sounds like you ought to at least have her evaluated...and maybe by a different doctor. :-) I strongly agree with the suggestion of a chiropractor too!
