Falling Arches???

My arches in both feet feel soar. They are achey all the time. I broke one leg last summer and ended up wearing flip flops for most of the time after. Not wearing sneakers. If you have had fallen arches can you describe how you treated this. I know I need to go to the doctor to make sure that is what is going on. If I can put some inserts in my shoes and try that for a few weeks or is there something else you had done?? Thanks for all the helpful advice.

What can I do next?

Plantar faciitis is very common.
Arch supports or wearing shoes with built in arch support will fix it.
When I had a bad bout of it, I got some Birkenstock sandals and wore them all day every day for 3 months. I kept them next to the bed so I slipped them on first thing in the morning and I never went barefoot except in the shower.
Flip flops, going barefoot and other shoes with no support will make it worse.
My feet are pain free now, but I still love my Birkies and wear them out of habit.

Go to Wal Mart. In their foot care department where they have the Dr. Scholl's stuff they have "arch supports". These are an off-brand, little Ace bandages that slip like bracelets over your feet. Wear them over your arches and I bet your pain will go away.
I have a friend that had plantar fasciitis and was scheduled for surgery. I told her about these and after wearing them for a few weeks, she cancelled her surgery.
I am not big on wearing shoes at all but these little arch bands can be worn all day, all night, barefoot or with flip flops. They are thin enough to wear with any of your regular shoes, also, and since they are flesh color, they are pretty inconspicuous. I believe they cost about $6. each-not per pair, but that is way cheaper than orthotics or new shoes.
I SWEAR by them. Don't wear them constantly but when my arches first started getting sore I found them and did wear them every day. Wore them a lot at first, now I wear them only when I know I will be on my feet a
lot. Sadly, I have only found them at Wal Mart.
Good luck.

Hi Jackie. I have had foot problems for many years. I saw a specialist and had orthotics custom made for myself. Not cheap. I have recently found a machine in our local grocery store that you step on without shoes and it tells you what inserts you need for your particular problem. It is a Dr. Scholls machine. The insoles are $49.95. I live in Ontario Canada so I would be very surprised to find out that they are not North American wide with these machines. I would never wear flip flops with fallen arches. In the summer I live in Burkenstocks. I wear them in the house all year long instead of slippers as I find that slippers do not have the support we need. Good luck.

If your feet are sore - it could be from falling arches - you can see a podiatrist to verify this.

Falling arches are caused for MANY reasons - being over weight (your feet were designed to hold you up at a certain weight - when you get over that weight - your bones and especially your feet - suffer).

You can put arch supports in your shoes until you are able to see a podiatrist and if that makes a difference - great!

GOOD LUCK!

fallen arches are falt feet. if you broke your leg the way it healed can impact how your walk/stand. That in turn can impact your feet. You can try the inserts - but they may actually make your feet hurt more since they're not used to being up. Are you wearing supportive footwear? Try different kinds os shoes. flip flops all the time would make my feet hurt. Depending on yoru foot, different kinds of shoes will feel better or worse. Clogs have a natural footbed and can make your feet and legs feel better. But some people find them to be very uncomfortable -and sneakers offer a much better support for them. Try a few different things - see what works. Beward, many things offered by podiatrists are not covered - so check with your insurance company first to see what's covered. i've seen so many people get orthotics for $500 and find they're not covered by their plan. YIKES! Then to ad insult to injury, they find that they don't even help!!!

My dad and I both have fallen arches, or flat feet. My dad saw a podiatrist and had arch supports custom made. He bought me some arch supports from WalkFit that I put in my tennis shoes that you can change from a low arch to a medium arch or high arch. www.walkfitplatinum.com
I really love to wear flip flops most of the year, so I bought some flip flops from Orthaheel that I love. www.orthaheelusa.com They are expensive for flip flops but last a long time. I try not to walk or stand without shoes that have arch support.

Possibly plantar faschiitis? I had it for almost 1 1/2 yrs before I figured it out, and there is an extremely easy cure for it! My friends who have had it showed me an easy exercise where you bend your toes under (imagine sitting on your knees and tucking your toes under so you feel the stretch). You do it 10 times for 10 seconds each time three times a day. The catch is it takes about 5 months to be cured, but it truly works!! Hope you figure it out

Flip flogs are horrible for feet. Get some GOOD shoes. That you can do right now.

See a foot doctor and possibly a physical therapist ASAP. They can work wonders on the feet but do NOT expect a foot massage! My guess is you have plantar faciitis.
