Hi Moms-

I am having a small cocktail party and wanted to come up with a warm fall cocktail. I have been looking online and every time I find something that sounds yummy, it turns out that it needs some obscure liquor ingredient that I would rather not run out and buy. I'm looking for something simple and tasty! Preferable something that is served warm but does not have to be.
Thanks for any ideas you can help me with!

What can I do next?

My personal favorite is a BFK. Take a coffee mug, add one shot of Bailey's, one shot of Frangelico, one shot of Kahlua. Then top off with coffee and whipped cream--it is delicious! If you don't have these liquers on hand I guarantee you, once you taste this drink you will have one every night! But you could always go with simply Baileys and coffee, which is yummy too. Add a little whipped cream and shaved chocolate, and it would be extra special.

We often heat up apple cider (in crock pot or on stove top), and add a little rum.

I like to add liquor to my hot chocolate. Creme de Menth, Cinnamon, Butterscotch, creme de cocoa and raspberry liquor, ameretto or any other flavor you like with chocolate. Just think of a box of chocolates and then you add it to your hot chocolate. I also like a hot buttered rum with butterscotch liquor. Just add a shot of butterscotch liquor to your hot buttered rum after it is in the cup.

Go on to www.foodnetwork.com and check out Rachel Ray and Sandra Lee's recipes. They both have awesome fall cocktail ideas, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic! And for ones that need some wierd ingredient, I usually go to the liquor store and get them in those little 2 ounce bottles. Then you're not wasting a whole bottle of something you'll never drink :)

Here's a recipe I've used for years and it's always a big hit.

Hot Citrus Punch

1 (12 oz) can frozen cranberry juice
1 (12 oz) can frozen apple juice
1 (6 oz) can frozen orange juice
2-4 Tbsp. Aspen Mulling Spices (use more or less if you like)
1 orange, sliced

Pour all juice in a crock pot. Add 2 cans water and spices. Add orange slices. Serve hot w/ cinnamon sticks.

You could also add some type of alcohol, but I never have and it's delicious - I make it at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Warm apple cider with rum is delicious. You can add a cinnamon stick and sliced orange. This is a good sit around the fire drink :)

This recipe by Emeril Lagasse,Chocolate-y Christmas Cafe au Lait, is so good and you'll have most of the ingredients already in your cupboard. It says christmas, but it is really good all year long! If you want to add liquor you can add a coffee liquor. It's really yummy, try it.

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups whole milk
2/3 cup plus 1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
2 ( 2-inch) cinnamon sticks
1 strip orange peel, about 1/2 inch by 3 inches
10 whole cloves
2 to 2 1/2 cups hot brewed strong coffee
1/4 cup cold heavy cream
Ground cinnamon, for garnish
Cocoa, for garnish
Directions
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, 2/3 cup of the sugar, and cocoa until smooth. Add the cinnamon sticks, orange peel and cloves and bring to a simmer, stirring, to dissolve the sugar and prevent the cocoa from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Simmer for 2 minutes, then remove from the heat, cover, and let steep for 10 minutes.

In a medium bowl, whip the cream with the remaining 1 teaspoon sugar until thick and frothy, and peaks form. Set aside.

Strain the milk mixture into a coffee pot or carafe and add 2 cups of the hot coffee (2 1/2 cups for stronger coffee flavor, to taste). Pour into cups or small mugs and top each with a dollop of the sweetened whipped cream.

Serve immediately.
