Fake Organic Brands + Recommendations for True Organic Wash/shampoo for Baby

Hi, we are expecting our first baby in a couple of months and are reading up on chemicals that cause endocrine disruption etc. Reading up on all this is exhausting and scary.

So we're contemplating switching entirely into organic brands, but realized that some of the brands we were using until now (Avalon, Kiss my face, Jason) are fake organic brands.

So, was wondering if anyone's done more research and found genuinely non toxic body wash/shampoo brands for babies ? Dr Bronner's seems to be really good, but their product line doesn't seem as extensive as brands such as California Baby etc.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be highly appreciated.

Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo. Get an empty bottle and dilute it 50-50 with water and now you have 2 bottles of shampoo. The extra water will make better lather and you use less which means you won't have dry scalp issues later.

I didn't use soap on my baby until her hair got so long, I needed a shampoo. Then I used California Baby (unscented). It is more expensive, but one bottle lasted us for a long time. You don't really NEED a lot of different products. Most of the stuff in these lines is all the same, they just repackage it and give it a different name (shampoo and bodywash is basically the same for example)
For everyday cleaning you can use a bit of vegetable oil (I like almond but anything works), it works great and locks moisture into their skin, so there is no need for lotions.
I read ingredients lists very closely and err on the side of those products with the least ingredients, organic or not.
Good luck.

I get ours from an online whole-sale club. its a lot cheaper then buying the things like california baby and it works great! smells really nice too. i dont know if it is "organic" for sure, but i do know that it is free of caustic chemicals, like formaldehyde and things like that. I actually get all of my products online from them, that way i dont have the worry about the caustic chemicals in any of our cleaning or hygiene products. feel free to message me with all of the details if you want. Or you can go to http://www.HealthySafeAndClean.com and request more information on specific products there. just fill out an information request and put in the request what you are concerned about.

We use homemade soap on our kids. Have since birth. www.realsimplesoap.com is where we get ours. She's fab, and her soap is amazing.

Isn't it frustrating? I have been looking up products on www.cosmeticsdatabase.com and have been increasingly disappointed in alot of my favorite products.

I really like California Baby and Dr. Bronners products, but my favorite brand right now is Earth Mama Angel Baby. Their baby shampoo is wonderful, as are their lotions and post partum products.

There are some great products on etsy right now too. Go to www.bestetsyshops.blogspot.com to check out reviews that two of my friends do. As one of my friends says "If I can't eat it, I won't put it on my skin".

Koala Pals, as one of your posters mentioned, is NOT organic. It's not even that natural. I was a Melaleuca customer for 5 years and as each month passed, I became more discouraged with their products. I will never use them again on my kids due to many problems including a chemical burn from one of their "all natural" products.

Good luck in your quest! Check out Earth Mama Angel Baby. I love that stuff!

Everything about being a first time parent is scary.

I'd really do a lot of research and see if you can speak directly with an Endocrinologist (a lot of specialists now have twitter/facebook pages through which you can speak with them directly).

As someone who's a recent cancer survivor, I can understand the concern of a first time parent. I try not to expose my kids to anything that could cause them harm.

But, as someone who's a scientist and has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a long time, I'd encourage you to verify with all-natural/organic products if they are FDA registered (you can go to FDA.gov for a quick search).

Products that aren't registered by the FDA can really make whatever claims they want, and the Federal Trade Commission has shut many of them down over the past few years for lack of scientific evidence. Sometimes, all natural products are just as dangerous as synthetic products (as one doctor said, poison ivy is all natural, but would you use it on your child).

Good luck!

Our doctor told us not to use soap or shampoo for the first year. He said that babies don't need it and it just dries out their skin. Our alternative was to use Young Living Essential Oils in the bath water for the first year. We prefer the Gentle Baby scent, but you could really use anything. And this worked! If they were really messy, I guess we used a fake organic cleanser to get them clean, but just water really did the trick the first year.

Hi M.J. Sometimes we spend more time getting car seats, high chairs, baby gates and safety locks than we do thinking about safe, non-toxic products. However, that is changing with new parents like yourselves who are becoming awakened. I encourage you to check out http://www.healthychild.org - they are an advocacy group for safe products for children and offer great resources. I work with families on natural safe options and can provide some check lists for you to help get your home ready for the new baby. Feel free to contact me if I can help. I am happy to share these and other resources and I can provide what I recommend if you send me a private message. Congratulations.
