So glad I had my kids years ago with no tests like this. I do know people who have had the gestational diabetes and they and the baby did fine since they were aware and able to keep an eye on things. I hope you do well with the test.
I failed my glucose test at the doc today. I have never had an issue with this with my other pregnancies. Now I have to do the 3 hour test. I am still shocked & I know it means I could have gestational diabetes....anyone have this or gone thru this?

With my first pregnancy I passed the 1 hour. With my second pregnancy I failed the 1 hour. I was at 140, and 140 was my doctor's cut-off so I had to take the 3 hour test. For me, it was torture. But, I had my husband and laptop with me. I couldn't work on my laptop most of the time, unfortunately. I was lying on the floor some of the time because I thought I was going to puke. I asked the lady drawing my blood, "I know if I puke I have to start all over again. But, if I just pass out can we keep going?" She and my husband laughed at me and then she got me some ice so I'd feel better (ice wouldn't affect the results). By the time the 3 hours were up, I felt better because my body had processed it all:) ANYWAY, good luck with your 3 hour test and don't stress too much. Most women who fail the first one pass the second one:)
Don't be shocked, this is the result of the test one in three times. Nothing surprising there. I "failed" the one hour test with my first pregnancy and passed the three hour; passed the one hour with my second kid. Only 4-5 percent of women have GD, and 33 percent "fail" the test so there really is nothing to panic about, it's very likely that you DON'T have GD. Good luck, fingers crossed for your three hour
I failed my test too, but its really okay like Melissa said, many women fail, usually because they have a drink or something to eat for the first one, even gum can affect it.
I passed my 3 hour test no problem. They are just being very careful as they should be.
Bring a book or someone with you to keep you entertained at the next test.
Yes, and it's not much fun. Make sure you don't eat for at least 12 hours before the test because it's intended to be a fasting glucose measurement. Make sure you take a protein-filled snack (nuts or cheese stick) and maybe a piece of fruit to eat as soon as the test is over. This really helped me when I had it done the second time. The first time, I didn't know to bring something to eat afterwards, and I just about passed out on the way home.
I failed both times, took the 3 hour test both times, and passed that both times! 2 healthy boys! Just have weird blood sugar when pregnant. It's a bummer way to spend a day, but bring some good magazines you've been wanting to read and try to enjoy the quiet time.
Many women fail the one hour screen. I failed with my twins but passed the three hour test.
I had this result with all my pregnacies---- not once did I have diabetes.
I failed the first test, passed the longer one. I didn't officially have diabetes, but I think I still had blood sugar problems. I passed out under my desk at work half an hour after eating a donut, and then almost did at a restaurant but they rushed me a glass of juice.
Did you eat something with a high sugar content within an hour or so of taking the test? That could have swayed the test.
With my second pregancy I decided I was going to eat before I took the glucose test (I ate turkey & cheese for the protein, but that's not all that important. :-)) My doctor was delivering a baby at the time that I had to go in for my glucose test. The doctor that I saw felt like I failed the glucose test so required me to come back in for the 3 hour test. Lucky for me I know what the benchmarks are for those tests and questioned whether I had failed it. So I called and talked to my doctor, she agreed that there was no need for me to take the three hour test and wasn't sure why the other doctor had said I needed too.
If you have been okay in the past, I say don't sweat it. But, for your baby's sake...better safe than sorry!
Best wishes, J.
failed the 1 hour test twice (first and third), but passed the 3 hour both times. good luck, bring something to do!
My last pregnancy I passed the 1 hour and failed the 3 hour. Then the doctor sent me back again for another 3 hour and I passed so don't wrack your brain. I've never suffered from Gestational Diabetes.
Lots of people can fail the short test, even the longer one can be wrong. I usually pass every test like this but one doc insisted I was diabetic. He had me do the 4 hour test and declared I WAS diabetic due to the results. I ignored him. I have taken it again plus the regular short ones at the docs office and have passed every one to them. They can be wrong, the doc can over react, the test can be accurate too.
It's certainly better to know than not know.
I failed my first hour test with my first baby.. then passed with flying colors on the 3 hour.. it could have been a false positive, happens all the time.
Yes, the 3 hour test is absolute torture... especially if you have severe morning sickness. I brought my mom and some books to read to help pass the time and the nurses had to practically carry me to the room to get my blood checked because I was too weak to walk. They had me go between waiting room and lab room the whole time for each test.
I had to take the 3 hour test twice... because I threw up half way through the first one. So I had to come back a few days later and do it all over again.
Oh, I *passed* the test, but was so borderline gestational diabetes that I didn't get treated for it, so I had pregnancy complications, I gained 45 lbs on my tiny frame and had such a huge baby I needed a Vacuum delivery. Dr.'s should REALLY treat people who have borderline results... so be sure you ask if you are borderline even if you do pass the test. (I didn't find out I had gd until my next baby 2 years later, when the Dr looked at my records and mentioned my gd! I was pissed.)
I pray you do not have my experience!
