Personally, I'd get nauseous too if I ate grapes with milk. :) Good luck!
I looked on google and couldn't really find the answer I was looking for so maybe I wasn't using right words. I failed my 1 hour test by 1 point. I have to take my 3 hour on MOnday. I am 28 weeks pregnant. I ate breakfast going by the diet the docs office gave me and I got so nausous and still feel kinda sick 3 hours later. I ate oatmeal,12 grapes,1 cup 2% milk, and a glass of water. I usually eat a bowl of cereal and hot tea with honey. Does this mean anything other than my body is used to sugar first thing in the morning? I hope I don't have gestational diabeties. I have only gained 9lbs so far and I thought you gained tons of weight with gestational. I am clueless. Any info would be helpful. Thanks ladies.

I had gestational with my second a year ago. I was borderline w/ my first and only had to modify diet. With the second one I had gained very little weight, but had flunked two of the four readings(one by 1 point!) with the 3hour glucose test. I had to modify my diet, test my blood sugar 4X a day and go to a specialist who monitored everything. I was able to control it really well. For breakfast I would eat a sandwich round(those flat ones by Arnold or Pepperidge Farm) with peanut butter on it. Or an egg with cheese on top. It got really boring really fast, but I could count on what reading I would get after breakfast. You have to watch the carbs. I love to drink milk, but that would spike my sugar and I had to discontinue it. You figure out what your body can handle.
Since you were one point off on the 1 hour, you will probably be fine after the 3 hour. If not, your doctor should give you some sort of menu/guidelines telling you how much carb is in what you eat.
Google, "Gestational Diabetes Diet" or even, "diabetic diet".
Remember it is only temporary, and you do what you have to do! Good Luck!
I failed the first test with my first pregnancy and had to take the three hour, as well. I cannot remember what I had for breakfast. Probably Carnation Breakfast Essentials, because that was one of the few things I could have for breakfast that didn't make me sick.
Talk to your OB about some alternative breakfast ideas, as I'm sure there are many options that would be just as healthy and not make you nauseous.
Try not to worry. Your OB will tell you the results as soon as he/she knows anything. Women and pregnancies are just so different, and it's really not possible to know whether on no someone has gestational diabetes based simply on diet and your reaction to specific foods. If that were possible there would be no need for the blood tests.
Hang in there and try not to think about it. If you do have gestational diabetes you'll deal with it (it might not be fun, but you'll deal with it). Try to just keep smiling and remember that you're doing this for your baby.
Good luck.
I have failed my 1 hour with both this pregnancy and my last. Never was I put on a special diet prior to taking the 3 hour, that's just silly. How can they get an accurate 3 hour test if you are eating as though you are diabetic? I'd strongly suggest you check with your doctor or another trusted health professional about just how necessary it really is. I've also always passed my 3 hour tests, so the worry was for nothing.
Well, when you are pregnant your body adapts strangely to all sorts of things.... so probably your little one wants his hot tea with honey and your nauseousness is 'the rebellion' of your body.
Not all women gain weight with gestational diabetes. however, it can cause your BABY to be born significantly bigger. My SIL only gained 5 pounds with her 4th baby, but her BABY was born 10 lbs 3 oz via c-section 2 weeks early. She had gestational diabetes with her last 2.
She wasn't really dilligent about following her Drs advice for changing diet, so I would advise you to do your best to follow what he says.
I can tell you that I DON'T have diabetes and I would HATE that breakfast. I have to eat some kind of meat protein first thing in the morning. But I could eat that recommended meal for lunch. Maybe switch up your b'fast and lunch suggestions and see if that helps.
Good luck on your test Monday - let us know how it goes!
I always flunked the hour test but when they gave me the 3 hour test I always passed.(4 times)
People are often surprised when they find out that many diets require eating MORE food than they're used to.
Oatmeal is very filling (if it's the right kind). Grapes actually sometimes make me nauseated from the sugar or acid or something, and 12 is a fair amount. Add in a cup of milk and a glass of water and you've got a full belly all at once.
Your stomach probably isn't used to that much food in the morning if you normally eat only a bowl of cereal with hot tea. Most cereals digest really quickly and hot/warm drinks actually get absorbed a lot faster than cold drinks.
If you continue to follow the diet and the sicky feeling continues, I'd call the nurse about it.
Perhaps try googling "diabetic diet nausea" - might get something from that.
When I flunked my 1 hour test 9 years ago and had to take the 3 hour one I was not put on a special diet before hand. I would ask your dr as to why you are on one. I know that I was not to eat or take any of my meds the day of the test. I was not allowed to eat until the test was done. That alone made me sick.
I am sure that things have change in the last few years. I passed the one hour test with my second child.
