OK...here it is. Someone has created a facebook account using my daughters name, and her correct info (we are thinking it is a friend or former friend.) This person has even used a picture of MY daughter and her bf and his brothers. My daughter, P, emailed this person yesterday and told them to take it down immediately. So, this person just blocked her.
We have reported it and listed the reasons. We changed my daughters password. We checked and modified any of her settings. What more can we do? I am tempted to email this person also. When we go to info, there is no email listed that we can see, since we are not "friends" w/ this person.
I have asked all of MY facebook friends to go to the fake profile and report it. There doesn't seem to be anything malicious going on that we know of, just a copy cat.
**For those who don't have facebook or don't believe in letting your kids have it, I'm not looking for lectures...I am only asking for answers to my question. Thank you. (and yes, my daughter is old enough to have an account.)
thanks all! I was kinda going into hyper mode! LOL! I just needed some reassurance. I did post on my status for all of MY friends to go and report, and we reported yesterday. Hopefully, it will be taken down soon. And yes, I already decided that I will email this person that if it is NOT taken down soon, we will contact the police and the school...hopefully a threat is all it will take!
And NO, my daughter is far from famous! LOL! She's pretty quiet and even, admittedly, a lil nerdy! She's very pretty, and smart, but doesn't want to deal w/ all the BS drama associated w/ this age! She's a good girl! :) Thanks again, all! Just having your support makes me feel so much better!

This happened to a friend of mine. Someone made a fake Facebook using her son's info and a pic they had of him. She immediately notified Facebook and let them know her son was a minor. They deleted the profile and set it up so that if he ever wants a profile of his own she has to be notified. Turned out to be a school friend not trying to be malicious just wanted him to finally have a Facebook page of his own. I was impressed by how quickly the powers that be at Facebook remedied the situation.
If I recall, on the reporting feature, isn't there a question regarding fraud?
I know I have blocked several people from my daughter's account and I think I saw something to that effect.
Also, if you manage to get in the fake account, make sure you print everything. Worst case, scare the person into taking it down by filing a police report of fraud.
I had my picture stolen once and happened to see myself on another site and when we notified the website management, it was removed immediately.
Good luck.
If your friends reported it and you have a high # of friends, it may be as good as done. Unless your daughter is famous, that's just plain....creepy. This copy-cat is violating the terms of service:

Good luck to you.
If you look under "Family Safety Center" (in blue) on this link, there is an option to report a fake or "imposter account" which is not allowed on Facebook. I don't know what kind of maliciousness you're waiting for, by setting up the fake account the person is already in the wrong.
Follow the steps outlined and Facebook will handle it. The person being impersonated has to report it, friends, yours or her, doing so won't cut it.

Have you called your attorney general's office to see what cyber stalking laws your state has?
Man, that would piss me off.
I guess all you can do is report it with what ever reporting options we do have available.... I'm sure some research would have to be done. Part of the risk of a social network.
My cousin made a facebook page for my deceased aunt, I think that is sort of crazy too... I mean for cryin out loud she's dead and has a facebook page?
Contact your state government and ask them what the laws are for cyber fraud. This is NOT bullying. But it IS fraud.
You should be able to contact Facebook and tell them the account is a fraud.
DO NOT contact the person directly again. They could turn the tables on you - you don't want that.
This is fraud! I would watch this very carefully!
