If you know the person you are searching for lives in a particular state, can you spedify that in your Facebook search?

Or do you just go through the million John Smiths (for example) that come up?

Any way to fine tune the search?

TIA

What can I do next?

It works if they've put it in their profile.

Yes, you can. But, it will not work if they have a fake location, or no location listed in their profile.

If they have their account set up private, its harder to find them.

You can kind of refine the search,
Top line - search for people - type in name hit the magnifying glass
Left hand side - click on people
you can then filter by education or work place.
You can also search by email.

Does that help?

I think if you are looking for a specific person you do have the ability to fine tune your search. If you look to the top left when you type in the name there will be the option for applications, people, groups, etc...make sure once you start to search you click on "people" and that will fine tune it the first time.

Then you can click the down arrow and add some details along side their name. If they do have their privacy set so they cannot be searched you may only be able to find them if you have friends in common.

Some ways to check are by selecting their home town, where they are now, education background such as high school or college, where they work, some of these may help you find them.

I have looked several times for a friend that lives in the next town. She had just made her FB page and only had a few friends so far. I looked at over 500 people with the same last Native American name. It was a daunting search. But I still could not find her. Finally she gave me the name of someone that was her friend so I could search for him and then look at his friends list. There she was. I was able to friend her that way.

I have my friends list private so that everyone who looks for me cannot see them. I don't even think that I have my friends list available to my friends. So that may not work if you do have friends in common.

There are many ways to search for someone but sometimes it just seems that the forces of nature are against you. If you do have this burning desire to find this person then send out a few messages to people that should be in common, they may know some details that you don't or may even be friends with them.
