Pro's? Con's? I had one when I was little and loved it. My daughter loves to cook treats every day (if we let her). We don't eat many treats, but we do help her back them at least once a week. We always end up throwing most of it away. I have taken it to work, neighbors, my parents, to the in-laws and any where else we can think of. If she knows I am going to the store she always says we need some type of mix. I am hoping that by Santa bringing this gift we can have the best of both worlds in a much smaller dose.
Are they really worth the $40 for the oven the cost of the mix?

You won't be able to really "enjoy" anything she bakes will really just be like rubber. Not like Real cake or cookie
I say just let her bake in the regular oven. You can divide cake mixes into half and save the rest for next time.

I think it's better just to let her use the real oven (with help, obviously). Things cooked in an oven taste so much better than things cooked with a light bulb! ;)
waste of money IMO. Go get some of those little muffin mixes and brownie mixes from the grocery store, the ones in the bag that are just a few servings, and teach her how to cook in the big oven, with your help of course. It will benefit you in the long run, teaching her how to cook in a real kitchen, and you will still get some quality time with her and not have to spend money you may wish you hadn't.

It's a waste of money. When we do cookies and stuff, we either make half the recipe, or freeze half the dough for later. If we make cupcakes, we send the extras to work with my husband.
No. How old is your daughter? We got our daughter one when she was 7 or 8, but she was already using a regular oven and cooking with supervsion. Now she is 10 and needs very little if any help to make anything.
I don't think it was worth the money and we'll be selling hers soon.
Waste of money and just teach her to use the REAL oven... She obviously has a passion for baking/cooking. Give her the real deal. Easy Bake oven is a pita.
Totally worth it. She'll have fun and once she uses up the mixes that come with the over you can branch out into home made ones.

I suggest not getting the easy bake oven and don't be tempted with the cupcake decorating thingy either. They make crappy tasting treats, make huge messes and not worth the money on replacement mixes, decorations, frostings, etc... Not to mention, it's just not as sturdy and fun as when we were young. :( I couldn't even sell these things at a yard sale for 3 bucks each! I agree.. let her help you bake for real and teach her the importance of safety and measuring early.

I think they are a huge waste of money. I really preferred to make cookies or a cake from a real recipe. I thought the treats they make are inedible. Just really bad my daughter didn't even like them.
I recently saw about a half dozen of them for sale at a second hand store. I even commented to my daughter that nobody likes those things:).
No need to buy special mix. You can use regular cake mix and water.
My son got one for a gift years ago. It really was more of a pain than it was worth. It takes pretty much as long to bake as a real oven does and doesn't really cook up very well all the same. The pans rusted insanely quickly and you can only buy replacements from the Hasbro website. I've never seen them in stores. Some of those mixes taste gross. I don't know if it's how it bakes up or what but they were pretty bad. The mix packages are really expensive and can add up really fast.
After we used the mixes we got with it we never bought anymore. By then the pans were rusted and wouldn't come clean anyway.

You will be spending the $40 for the oven which makes teensy little cakes that taste horrible, then on top of that spending $3-5 per pack on the mixes!!!
Save your $ and use your oven and a cake mix. She can learn the real way to bake then!
I'm going to re-enforce what everyone else has already said and say it's a huge waste of money. It takes too long to bake the "treats," and then they aren't very good, and you only get little tiny bites for twice or three times the price of what a whole box of cake mix would cost in the grocery store. That said, my daughter DOES use hers. She has a lot of fun using it. Family members usually buy her refills for Christmas. If you do buy one, buy it used so you're not throwing too much money out for it because it's not worth it, IMO.
My daughter picked up one at a garage sale for $3 and couldn't WAIT to try it out. She was 8 at the time, and already helping to bake in the kitchen.
She plugged that thing in and we got a mix from the store. She was VERY disappointed. It seemed to take forever and it didn't even taste that good!
When I looked online, I saw there are ways you can make recipes for the EZ Bake using your own ingredients, but frankly she was happier just cooking stuff in our big oven.
She used that thing ONCE. Glad she only spent $3 on it! We ended up selling it at our garage sale for $3 LOL
Not worth it. Teach her to bake in a real oven. Or a toaster oven. My daughter loves to cook in the toaster oven.

Another option is: to get her, her own "kiddie" cooking utensils/apron/bowls etc. so she can cook/bake using her own stuff.
My daughter, got an EZ Bake oven when she was younger. She did not like it. Because by then, she was already cooking/baking, with me in the kitchen. And sure, using box mixes too and also cooking and baking, from scratch. And she found the EZ bake stuff, just a junker kiddie version of "cooking" which she was already doing and using in the kitchen.
But yes, other kids love it.
Every kiddo is different sort of thing.
Why can't she bake with real oven with your help. Show her the correct way to bake. EZ bake is horrible IMO.
