Hi Moms,
I have a friend who has an eye disease (Keratoconus) and may need to have surgery to correct the problem. She has no insurance and does not qualify for Medicaid. Thought I'd at least write a post to see if anyone out there knows of any programs that might help her with the finances for this surgery in her case. Thanks for any advice. Oh, and she lives in Texas.

What can I do next?

Depending on the community, there are often foundations set up to help those that need surgery or medical help. A friend of mine (no insurance, etc.) ended up with an appendectomy a year or so ago...... the hospital foundation covered some of it, I think.

Also, doctors are often willing to lower fees to uninsured people, since they end up taking less from insurance companies, anyway. It doesn't hurt to talk to the doctor and see what they can do.

Is there a teaching hospital near her? She might ask someone there.
