My 3 year old grand son has been blinking his eyes alot lately. He doesn't watch much TV, only wants the music channels so he can dance. He has also complained about pains in his fingers. Is this something he shoiuld see a neurologist about?

What can I do next?

It could just be a tick that he had developed or picked up from someone else. I think your first stop should be the pediatrician, and they can recommend someone if they think there is more to it...or if they don't and you are still concerned, you can try a pediatric neurologist.

My four year old son has been blinking his eyes more frequently. We went to the eye doctor thinking he had something in his eye. One of the first questions the doctor asked was if he slept with his eyes closed all the way. He doesn't. We got some ointment to put in the nightly when the dryness bothers him and he is doing much better.

Not sure about the pains in his fingers tho.

I'm not an expert by any means, so checking it out would always be good. It would put your mind at ease, at the very least. However, I'm wondering if the blinking is going on only when he watches TV? My oldest daughter went through a stage like this -- it went away, she's fine, no diagnosis. Doctor said she was probably just kind of checking out how things look when you blink, squint, etc. If it continues for long, definitely check it out though. Better safe than sorry.

is he dehydrated? I'd take him in to be checked out, could be nothing to worry about but just in case it's a bigger problem. my son has pain in his fingers and we ruled out pretty much everything except potassium deficiency

I would check with his regular pediatrician first. My son did the blinking thing at age 4 and it was a tick. Turns out ticks are pretty common at that age and they come and go. You could ask the doctor about that and the fingers just to be on the safe side.

Maybe he's just blinking for the sake of blinking.
Little kids do weird things sometimes.
Especially if you call attention to it.
Does he blink uncontrollably when he's sound asleep? (Not to be confused with REM movements).
You can have him checked by his pediatrician but I wouldn't worry about racing him to a neurologist just yet.

Best whishes.
