I have a 9 yr old daughter who is a very clean person but still suffers from EXTREME body odor :( My little girl showers everyday before school with an antibacterial soap, puts on deodorant/anti-persperant and then dusts on a cornstarch based powder in certain areas and still...she has a very ,very offensive STRONG body odor within an hour.
Her doctor just keeps telling me that it's her changing hormones, keep doing what we're doing and it will work itself out.In the meantime she's being made fun of at school, losing friends and even having friends parents asking her not to come to thier homes because of the smell. I feel horrible that she's going through this and I can't seem to help her!I tried a new diet with no onions, garlic,or other strong smelling foods..to no avail. HELP!!! Can anyone relate?

What can I do next?

T.,

Have you tried limiting the meat this girl eats? So much of the meat on the market is just chock full of hormones, that little girls are menstruating sooner and sooner. Also, when meat is broken down in the body, it often causes odor.
Lastly, I would say, stop using antiperspirants on one so young. The aluminum that clogs the pores to prevent the sweat from leaving the duct has been linked to Alzheimer's Disease.
Best wishes,
K.

Hi T.! I see I am not alone in having a lot of children. I have 10. They are a blessing. As for your daughter, I recommend you going to the health food store and get some barley green. If you are familiar with the Dayton mall area, there is a health food store a little down from Burlington coat factory. The products name is just barley. It is cheaper than green magma. But I must warn you , it is nasty, but it works. If she won't take it give it to her in tablet form(green magma). In a few days, the odor should be gome or greatly diminished. When I took it , my under arms and other areas odor was gone. Just start her off with half dosage. Please let me know if this helps. J.

Hello T... First, I am sorry that Your daughter is having to deal with this issue, an then having parents of the other children to do that. I can't imagine it. Myself I could never do that to someone's child. Most important thing is to comfort her. Let her know it's not her fautl.. Kids blame themselfs for everything when we don't even relize it. I do agree with the other posts.. I would look beyond the doctor You are seeing now. I wish you all the best in this situation.

i have read some of the solutions that may help your daughter, i have another one. my husband suffers from the same problem. altho it isnt a heath problem like an infection (which is def a good idea to have checked out), he marely just has bad b.o. what i have found that works on him is the arm and hammer deoderant. this seems to be the only one that will work. it actually gets rid of the smell instead of just TRYING to cover it up. hopefully this will work or something the other moms have mentioned. good luck sweety

Hi T.,

I agree with the advice the other mothers have given...especially about the antipersperant! The Arm & Hammer Deoderant is good stuff, I have used it as well & it does work. The Barley Green & Acidolpholus are great as well. I would try some of these Natural Remedies...I'm sure you will have great success. I have a good book from Bottom Line Health called "Uncommon Cures For Everyday Ailments". It has quit a bit of helpful information. I can email you Page of info about Body Odor if you are interested.
You & your family are in my prayers...my little sister has 6 girls! You are a good woman!

I would maybe check out Cindy's health and vitallity center if you live near the niles ohio area. The lady who owns it was an RN and I've gone in there a couple of times and every thing she has suggested to me has worked... just and idea and I wish you and your daughter the best of luck!!

I have a wonderful book called Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible.
It has not only vitamin information but foods to eat as well. Here is what it has to say on body odor.
B12 Yeast, liver, beef, eggs,
Zinc kidney, vegetables, whole grains, wheat bran,
wheat germ, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds.

Take 1-2 Acidophilus (live good bacteria like in yogurt! But works faster- helps with gas and indegestion as well!) tablets 1-3 times a day
1 Cholorophyll tablet or capsule 3 times a daily
1 chelated zinc 15-50 mg. tab daily
1-2 muptiple digestive enzyme tabs 1-3 times daily.

Check out your health food store.
I like Willoughby's Natures Way- very knowledegable staff.
See what is in your area. Ask questions you know the answers to and see if they know as well.

They usually have a book section or go to Boarders Books or your area book store and look up this as well as Earl Mindell's Herb Bible.
These books tell if you have an ailment. What you can do to fix it with Food, vitamins or herbs.
I use mine everytime someone in the house is ill. I go to it first. Then to the doctor if need be or to Doctor first if SERIOUS! You use your best judgment and it will help you. These books are updated every few years and are a wealth of information.
I hope this helps.

I'm sure your daughter is very clean and that you're doing everything you can, but she probably needs the prescription deodorant from the doctor. My daughters used this and it works, but it does sting or burn a little they say. I'm sorry I can't remember the name, but I'm sure the doctor will know. This is a topical medicine that actually paralyzes the sweat glands over time.

Just because it's a "natural" body change doesn't mean you have to accept it. You don't want your daughter to be talked about at school because she has a medical problem that causes her to have bad body odor. Don't put it off. Go to a different doctor! Maybe a dermatologist? An endocrinologist?

Good luck!

Hi T.,
What a dilemma for both of you. There is a wonderful supplement that Shaklee sells that should help with this. It is a tablet, but you can also make a tea with it. Here's where you can find it if you're interested: http://www.shaklee.net/changinglives/product/Alfalfa

Best of luck and don't lose hope.

Hi T..

So sorry to hear that you and your daughter are going through this! I've read the advice that others have posted and much of it is very good advice. However, I'd like to offer a different idea...

When I was the same age, I developed the same problem. As it turned out, though, it had nothing to do with my cleanliness or diet. I had an infection. It started in my ears and sinuses and had a terrible odor! It affected my breath even though I brushed my teeth several times a day. The infection moved to my stomach and digestive tract and became a real nuisance. We had to see several doctors before we found one that didn't just prescribe topical medications to mask the odor. A round of good antibiotics (about a month's worth) did the trick.

Best of luck to you!

Make sure your child takes a bath regularly and use an anti-bacterial soap during bath. Get your daughter wear cotton socks but not synthetic ones.. Here is an informative and helpful article

Hi T.,
My sister used a product call Body Mint. You can get it online and she said that it worked wonderful for her. Its a natural suplement, but she will have to swollow a pill everyday.
She suffered from the same symptoms as your daughter and she has been taking this for quite a number of years. Its seems to help greatly. If this doesnt work, I agree with the earlier post and see a dermatologist! There has to be something that can help. This is a tough age for a young girl. No need to make it worse huh?!?!
Good luck.
