It's not definite money (you have to qualify), but it could bring in some extra cash:

Schlesinger Associates is a local research company that runs focus groups on everything from dining out to cosmetic surgery. Most are consumer-related focus groups. They usually last 1-4 hours and pay $50-250 depending on the topic and amount of time the focus group lasts. Their office is on the Dallas Tollway not far from the Galleria.

Go here to register:

https://db1.schlesingerassociates.com/sch2/PreRInternet.j...

Once you sign up, you will receive email when they're recruiting for a focus group, and sometimes they'll call.

While I haven't been able to participate in a group yet (I work full time and the evening sessions fill up), I know people who have and were impressed with how it went.

Good luck!

While I can't offer you a good way to make extra money, I can offer you a good tip. If you have money, you'll spend it - this is just a fact. So everytime you put money back for a future use, something WILL come along and you will determine that you need to use your saved money. To prevent this and to save for Christmas, don't put aside money - go buy gift certificates. If you do most your holiday shopping at, say, Target, go get a Target gift card - you can load more money onto it whenever you want. Then, the money is not so easy to use for other things that come up. I use this trick and it's always worked for me and somehow, those little emergencies find a way to get solved without me ever cashing in a gift certificate! Good luck - S.

You could try cleaning out the closets and having a garage sale. Or use eBay. I have a holiday account where I put money away 2 times a month. It's not much but it's something.

I agree with Susan - focus groups aren't for certain because you may not qualify or be able to go to each one they contact you for, but it's easy money for what you do. Fieldwork Dallas seems to contact me by email every other week or so, and Savitz Research calls about as often. Give it a try - you really have nothing to lose!

I know you're probably getting a LOT of similar suggestions. But I work from home and have a toddler. I do PR/Media (former TV News Anchor) and I've also started a side business with CyberWize. (www.HavensWize.com) A friend, who is a Delta Airline Captain, swears by this company, it's "binary" plan and he isn't the type to even consider network marketing. But I'd say it's worth checking out. And it only has two legs, so everyone above you and below you helps each other. I'm able to buy things I already use. Good luck! S.
