Extra Breast Milk

I am a healthy mom of a 5 1/2 month old. I was pumping extra (due to travel and other issues). The plan was to give it to a friend but her baby only wants formula. So I have probably about 200-300oz of milk now and will have more later. If you are interested let me know.

What can I do next?

I would contact a lactation center such as the St. Vincent postpartum clinic, or perhaps LaLeche, and see if there is a way to donate it to needy mothers.

there is a great milk bank you can donate to that sends it to orphans in the u.s. and africa. i first heard of it on oprah. here's the link:
http://www.breastmilkproject.org/
i think they send you a pump, and the shipping is prepaid. you just have to fill out forms and get your doctors approval.

You can call the hospital near you, they often have premies that need breast milk but thier Mothers can't give it.
There are breast milk banks but not sure if one is here in Portland. You would be giving the gift of gold to a sick or small baby. :-)

BLESS YOU!!! I don't need the milk but i just want to thank you for offering it to someone who needs it. I had preemie twins and I took as much breastmilk as I could find from people who were willing to give it away. I pumped like a crazy woman but never made enough milk to feed them both 100%.

If you are interested in donating it to needy babies (w/health risks, preemies etc) you can contact Mother's Milk Bank in San Jose. They do require medical info (including blood work if I recall correctly) to insure you are healthy, but they cover all expenses. In addition, some expenses can be a tax write (cost of milk storage bags, rental fees etc), but of course you would have to talk to a tax professional about that. best wishes, what a great thing you can do!

wow, never heard that one before....didn't think you could share breast milk...you should look into that before you try and give it away? Best of luck!
