Hi Ladies-
Just wondering if any of you have used the Nuvaring birth control and what your experiences were with it. I had my second son, 7 weeks ago and I am considering going on it. I have a prescription already, just not sure if I want to start it.

Hi S.,

I have been using Nuvaring for a couple years now, and I love it. It was the only thing that worked for me with no spotting in between -- sometimes, it's a little difficult to remember when to take it out and when to get a refill (it's easier to just remember to take a pill every night all the time), but I write it on my calendar ("ring") to help me remember. It's really easy, and has worked really well for me.

I have been using the Nuvaring for the past 6 years. I was suffering migraines and it has help ease them. I like it because I don't have to worry about taking something every day. I have had a few times were I forgot to take it out at the end of 3 weeks so I know have it marked on my calendar.

I loved the NuvaRing!! I would be using it now except I am 35 and an occasional smoker and the Dr won't prescribe it for me until I quit smoking completely -- because of my age I am a stroke hazard. Anyway, I was on the nuvaring for years and was very leary of it at first, but my Dr inserted it the first time for me and then I was scared to death about removing it, but it turned out to be easy. You will enjoy the convenience of it -- only inserted and removing, it's like a Ron Popeil infomercial, 'set it and forget it!' Go fill the prescription and enjoy safe, easy birth control!

just write it in your calendar. i leave mine in all 30 days and don't have a period-at all. it's so great. i'm not worried at all and the doctor says that it's totally fine. i don't get women who still want a period when you can avoid it. i highly recommend it. sometimes you just have to shove it back in it's place though...no big deal.

Hi, I used it for about two (2) months and had no problems, but the side effects for me were too much and I had to stop taking it. I was gaining weight & had bad headaches. The head aches were worst then anything, as soon as I took my ring out I was fine. But, it's easy to insect and take out and it Reg. your periods, and you don't feel it. I have a couple extra if you want them, it's the same for everyone, they are still sealed, I have no use for them. Let me know?

I was reading the many responses on this one. I do have to agree. I was very prone to Migraines and my dr said because of the way the nuvaring distributes into your body...it's better. I do agree. I've been on it for a few years now. The only concern I have is after being on it for such a long time, I'm experience short, lighter periods. As many of you may think that's a good thing, there's months I don't get one at all. Which to me is bothersome. Not that I enjoy getting one every month, but makes you wonder what makes it stop. Anyone else experience that? Best of luck on your research. Hope everyone's responses are helping you decide.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!!!! I just left mine in the whole 30 days and changed it when those were up....this way I avoided all periods! :D
And weird questions I had when I first started--
No you don't feel it in, Yes its easy to put in and take out, No it doesn't fall out (I was REALLY constipated once and it did start to move though when I was straining for a BM), No it does interfere with intercourse (my hubby couldn't feel it), and no it doesn't make you tasted different while in (per my hubby LOL).
Sorry if that was to much info but I know it was concerns when I started using it.

Hi. I have been on it for the last few months and so far so good. I find it much better than the regular pils for me because i was never very good at remembering to take them. I really think that everyone reacts differently to these kind of things so its def a trial and error thing. If you are a bit concerned about it coming out and things then i wouldn't be. The first month i found myself checking the bed to make sure it hadn't popped out at an "inappropriate moment" but it never budged until i wanted it to and then it just came out with very little effort on my part. Hope this has helped you a little.

Hi S.-
I tried the Nuvaring. At first, liked it...then I noticed that I was getting HORRIBLE headaches around the time that I was putting it in every month. I became VERY nauseous from the headaches. I read the side effects and sure enough, these were listed. I stopped using it and I feel great. Everyone is different, you might not have the same side effects as I did.

Hi S.,

I found the Nuvaring to be super convenient. I am prone to migranes but have not experienced any extra migranes with the ring. If you have any other specific questions let me know.

I was on the Nuva Ring for a year and loved it!! My doctor prescribed it because I was prone to period migraines and although it didn't totally rid me of the headaches it definitely greatly reduced them. I did go off it after a year though because I gained 20 pounds. I have always been tall and thin (high metabolism) so this was alarming to me. I talked to my doctor about it and he said that weight gain is a side effect that occurs in a lot of women on the Ring. So, I ended up going off it and so far have lost 8 pounds. I did like the convenience of it, though.

I used the Nuvaring for about a year. I loved the ease of use, so much easier than remembering a pill everyday and it lightened up my period. But ultimately I had to stop using it as I was getting bad headaches and it was greatly reducing my libido. (I am mid-20's) I say give it a try, if you get the headaches or libido loss you can always stop using it right away, you really have nothing to lose. I am now considering an IUD when I am sure I am done having kids.

It's supposed to be low dose (since it's internal). I have used it, and I really, really liked it. I did well with the pill as well (I just hated having to take it everyday at the same time). So . . . maybe I'm just lucky?

I just figure: the lower the dose of hormone, the better, and if I don't have to remember to do it but once a month, that's an added plus.

I've heard of people being grossed out by it (which is kind-of weird), but it's really quite convenient. Some people even claim they can feel it (which makes me think they must not have it in far enough—it still works like that, though).

Everyone responds differently to medications, though. That is true.

While the convenience of it was great, it lowered my libido greatly (and I was in my mid-20s) my best friend went on it after her twins and had the same experience. After all I have read about birth control now, for me personally, not worth it for all the side effects. The IUD is comparable, to the ring and you keep it in for 5 years, with the option to take it out if you want more kids before 5 years.

Good Luck,

my only "experience" is second hand. some of our good friends were on it, done having kids after having two and are expecting their third in july! i know of another couple who had a similar experience. seems that it's less than 99% effective :)

I read this to see what the general consensus was, I haven't used Nuvaring but I am curious about it. For those who mentioned the IUD (Mirena), I don't recommended it - I experienced many side effects including zero libido, oily skin/hair, acne, mood swings, depression, and weight gain. I understand my case was probably extreme (since I experienced practically every side effect imaginable!), but out of five friends who also had it, four experienced enough unfavorable side effects to have it removed before they'd even had it a year. It was convenient, sure! But not at the cost of all the side effects.

LOVE it--only 5% of the typical full pill and you only need to replace once a month.
However, you can't use it if you are nursing, you can only use progesterone.

Just read the insert, or get one from the pharmacist. It will tell you all the side effects and they will scare you to death. My sister-in-law used it and got big dark blotches on her face. I never used it. Be careful and do your research first. Good Luck

As everyone has already mentioned, you have to find what works best for you. I used the Nuvaring for several years before I had my son, and really appreciated the ease of use. I had no noticable side effects, and with the exception of it popping out once or twice during active sex, no problems. My doctor even told me that I didn't have to take it out for every fourth week - I just changed it once a month and voila! No periods! I think that was the best part of all!
