I am expecting my second child, sometime in May of 2007 and since I just relocated to the Orlando area, I am looking for some advice as to where can I seek medical attention, (prenatal) without having insurance. You see, currently I started working, however as a temp and can not provide any insurance till I am hired perm, if so. Plus, I am a bit frightened that the job might just let me go, merely because I am pregnant, what to do?

What can I do next?

If you get medicaid for children (and I hope you will) just wanted to let you know that After-Hours Pediatrics in Waterford Lakes Town Center will accept medicaid and it's very good. It's near Amigo's restaurant. On- site lab and x-ray. No appointment necessary. Open 365 days a year!
Open Weekdays 5 - 11 PM, Weekends/Holidays 1 - 11 PM

Hi V.. Welcome to Orlando. Fortunately, you have many options. There is a fabulous midwife, Jennie Joseph, of The Birth Place, who takes Medicaid, self-pay, and a variety of insurance programs. Jennie can be in attendance at her birth center if you prefer an out-of-hospital experience. In addition, there is a great OB practice, LochHaven OB/Gyn, who accept all moms, as well. They are an 8 physician practice and they catch their babies at Florida Hospital - Orlando. When it comes to prenatal care, you need to be with someone with whom you share a trust relationship. That is a very important part of receiving good prenatal care.

Good luck in your search.

V.,

I hope I don't offend in any way by suggesting this, but it sounds like you are eligible for Medicaid because you are pregnant and have no insurance. It all depends on your income, but single moms usually get a break. I was married when I became pregnant with my son, but my husband was waiting on his work permit and I only worked part-time, so I qualified. It pays for EVERYTHING. It's really nice not to get any doctor bills when your trying to prepare for a new baby on a limited budget. Here's the address to the Florida Department of Children and Families website: http://www.myflorida.com/cf_web/
Check it out and see if you qualify. If you are approved they give you lots of info on how and where to find care. I found a wonderful doctor who accepts Medicaid. But his office is in Kissimmee. It was worth the drive. Please contact me if you would like more info.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

Hi V.,
This can be such a scary and stressful situation! I wanted to let you know that there is a wonderful center in Winter Garden (about 10 minutes from Orlando) that will work with you in your process to get insurance. It is a birthing center, however you don't have to give birth there to be a patient. Many moms who go, choose to do so simply because they can get all their prenatal care done in a comfortable, peaceful atmosphere with a midwife who truly cares about you and takes time to listen to you and your concerns, etc. She is highly qualified and began her work in England years ago. She has been in America for a while, but still has her lovely English accent. She is very educated and also sees women for Gyn visits, too.

I would highly recommend calling them to see about scheduling your first visit!
The number is: ###-###-#### and the website address is:
www.TheBirthPlace.org

Also, as far as your job. I believe in the state of Florida it is VERY illegal to fire someone because they are pregnant. That's definitely something you can ask, though, when you call or go in for your first appointment with Jennie Joseph, the midwife.

Blessings,
D.

Depending on where you live my best advice for you is to apply for medicaid, you should be able to get it, because you are pregnant, and if I may say, the almost always give it out to pregnant people. It would be very hard for you to go to a prenatal care paying your way through and it cost too much, specially if you already have 1 baby, you would be in a tight spot. Anyways hope I was able to give you some advice - good luck!
