Expecting Baby #3 - New Baby Gadgets/things to Know? Advice from Moms of 3?

We're excited to be expecting baby #3 in October. We have two daughters, 6 and 4. Now we're expecting our BOY!!! I'm seeking input on "new" baby gadgets, boy toys or advice on having #3? I've heard I should replace all of our bottle's nipples and "binkies". We're getting lots of hand-me-downs from family who has boys, so most clothing will be covered. We haven't had to buy anything new for a baby in 6-7 years. Wondering what you love/can't live without that we should look into?

Much thanks!

Get your girls as independent/responsible as possible. Train them to hold babies so they can function as mother's helpers :-) My four year old (will be 5 in a week) is incredibly helpful with my son, and it's made so much of a difference.
If you have the resources check out simply-homemade.com or other meal prep places....otherwise figure out what all you can make and freeze so you can just throw in the oven for lunches or dinners.
Look into cloth diapers! They're totally easy to maintain and use if you get fuzzi bunz or bum genius (you can find them on cottonbabies.com or even amazon.
Have a bin full of crafts and other projects that your girls can work on when you need to focus on the baby.
And make this summer as memorable as possible. As for stuff for the baby...just check out garage sales and get some 1st year toys for boys. If you don't have a baby carrier look for an ergo carrier it can be used as a front and back carrier...and it frees up your hands.
Good luck! I just had my boy, love the difference from the girls!

You will definitly want a stroller that you can snap the car seat into. Unfortunatly, #3 spends tons of time sleeping in the carseat for naps!

I agree with the baby carrier. I just had #3 and I do use it a lot more than with the other 2. Definetly replace the nipples and paci's. I don't think there was anything different I needed between having a boy or girl...maybe lap pads to use on the changing table. Both of my boys peed freely when their diaper came off so that helped a ton...only had to wash the lap pad b/c it kept the changing table cover dry.

Mine 3 are 3 1/2, 2, and 2 months...I didn't think it was a hard transition from 2 to 3. Your kids are a little older so it will be different, but I'd suggest trying to have them help...it will make them feel important and like "big" sisters.

Congrats and good luck!

As far as having the third goes, you are going from a man-to-man to a zone defense. You can't hold all 3, it's hard to help all 3 at the same time. I don't know how older your other kids are, but it will help them learn some independance as well as appreciation for all your work.

I had my first 3 close together, so I couldn't really ask them for much help, but maybe you are in a different situation and you can have them help you by getting a diaper or a clean outfit. Maybe you could start with some other chores like set the table, pick up the baby toys, etc.

I would try and get some quiet time for the other 2 in the afternoon when the new baby naps so you can catch some zzzs as well. I've heard other moms say that they want that to be their "baby free" time, but in the beginning you need some rest. Try to schedule other times when you can leave the baby and take the other kids out, even if it's just for an ice cream.

I ran into some potty problems when #3 came and my oldest regressed for awhile. Keep that in mind and I hope it doesn't happen to you.

I don't know exactly how it "works" but somehow everyone is happy most of the time and you get done what you NEED to get done.

Boogie wipes - my new favorite item! No baby likes to have their nose wiped yet so many are snot machines. My mom saw these and picked them up for my son and I don't know if it's the scent or what (he has sensitive skin and these don't have a negative affect) but he holds still to have his nose wiped when I use them. (Tissue? Still turns his head away and groans.) He's 9 months.

I could go on all day about new prods but am limited on time so this is my fav.

Congrats!

i just had our 3rd in april. my older two are almost 3 yrs old and 20 months old. I noticed that i used our baby carrier (the one i wear on my body) A LOT more this time around. the baby doesn't like to sit in the baby carseat in the stroller while we're at the park or anywhere that i'm going to be stopping the stroller. SO, i bring the other carrier with and put her in it while i do things with the older ones. my movement puts her back to sleep, and i don't have to keep looking at the stroller to make sure she's ok. i also where it around the house when i'm getting dinner ready or washing dishes. again, the movement keeps her quiet. also, the other two don't try and mess with her....and i still can get things done.
CONGRATS on your third! hopefully the older ones will help out. that's nice if they can fend for themselves a little...hopefully you won't be as tired!
