Exausted All the Time

I just want to know if this is normal. I have a 8 month old dauther. She sleeps though the night most of the time but always gets up about 6am. Since I had her I have just been so exausted all the time. Even if my husband helps its like I never get caught up. Is this normal to just feel like a zombie all day every day. I know motherhood is exausting but should it still be so bad.

What can I do next?

I won't attempt to diagnose you. But sometimes when i have the blaahhs I do a fast (there are many kinds of fasts, right now I'm doing fruit, veg. nuts, and beans with oils. in the past I've done all juice. sometimes for a few days, sometimes for a few weeks). Just helps get me back on track.

I had the same problem. I was low on iron.

The doctor says I am not (but hasn't tested - I was severely anemic while pregnant & they just say I "should be back to normal" now & I decided that insisting on tests was a waste of what little time I have). Anyway, I take one 30 mg supplement of iron most days and feel worlds better.

I know too much iron is bad, but I don't think I'm pushing it - I feel like a TOTALLY different person when I don't take it. GOOD LUCK!

It's not uncommon. Someone suggested vitamins another to get your thyroid checked. Both good advice. You should make an appointment with your regular doctor to rule out any serious issues. It is not unheard of the have an iron deficiency post pregnancy or diabetes. Nonetheless it is important to get this checked out. If all turns out okay then agai vitamins, make sure you are well hydrated, and some regular exercise like walking should help. Hope it is that simple. Best wishes.

Thyroid???????? Need to lose weight? Anemia? Deficient in some other vitamins and nutrients? Exercise? What time are you going to bed? Are you working outside the home? If you are getting to bed late and getting up early it will impact your day as well.

I go through this a lot. It is pretty normal. If you are breastfeeding, hormones release into your body that makes you tired.

But, if you feel it is making you depressed or you feel weak as well, check with your doctor and have a blood test. You could be anemic, low thyroid or have a vitamin deficiency (I have vit d deficiency and was having this fatigue).

Also getting too much sleep can make you tired!

One thing that helped me, was taking my vitamins and setting a schedule and sticking to it. Take a shower and get dressed when you first wake up. It really helps! Excersize and healthy snacks throughout the day help. Celery sticks with peanut butter, cheese and crackers, rolled up turkey meat, apple slices and a handful of mixed nuts, toast with nutella, hard boiled egg. Eat protein with carbs... it helps with energy absorption so you don't crash and burn.

Maybe get your thyroid checked --- it can be thrown off after pregnancy -- and the regular panel of check-up blood tests.... never know. I would say if she is sleeping through the night, you aren't nursing, and you are getting 7-8 hours of sleep at night and are still fatigued that it has to be something medical. Best wishes!

I'm sure others have mentioned these things, but I recently had the same problem with being exhausted.

I got tested for food allergies - nothing.
Had my thyroid checked - nothing.
Iron checked - it was a little low.

But my doctor also put me on medicine for depression. I think it has helped.

There are many things to cause you to be tired, but I'd start with having your thyroid & iron checked. Your doctor may have some other suggestions as well.

Try drinking a glass of Acai every morning, helps me more than I can say! Plus its cheap, only $3 a bottle at Sam's. Also a few minutes of excercise (do you have a Wii fit?) every morning before your shower will help your body get out of that "zombie" stage.

My son is almost 4, has never been a good sleeper, so for me, it's only just starting to wear off. And if he has a bad night - zombie time! I think there are some things you just have to let go and/or relax about or you'll drive yourself crazy. Ah, motherhood :)

To be safe, get a checkup to make sure it's not thyroid or anything like that.

Your problem is you are low on Vitamin D ... with there not being alot of sun in the winter women especially lack Vitamin D making them very tired and not really want to do much but sleep. I was in the same boat two months ago, and the doctor gave me a prescription for Vitamin D to get my levels up to where they should be. My suggestion is go to the Grocery store and purchase yourself some Vitamin D supplements and take two each day WITH food for a couple weeks. You will see an improvement quickly.

I think it's normal to a point (it is exausting being a new mom) but I suggest you go get a physical and get blood work done to rule anything else out. Can you and your husband take turns sleeping in on the weekend? My husband and I started doing this when our daughter was an infant and we still do it (she's 4 now). We decide on Friday night and whoever gets up with her on Saturday morning gets to sleep in on Sunday.

I complained to my OB/GYN about being exausted all the time and being more moody at my 6 month check up after my daughter was born and within a few minutes he diagnosed me with PMDD and offered to write me a prescription for Prozac. I declined the prescription and left his office in tears. Several months later I scheduled a physical with my primary care doctor and after getting my blood work back she informed me that I was hypothyroid. After starting my thyroid medication I got much better (once she got me on the right dosage - it was hell adjusting it every 6 weeks until it was right).

I think it is normal to some extent, but also great to not feel that way! Try regularly taking a walk with your little one right after breakfast. Get out of the house everyday for not only errands, but also fun indoor or outdoor things with or without other people.

It is somewhat normal. Baring any medical conditions, maybe you should try a good multi-vitamin (like Oligo).

If you don't have additional time/energy in your already overbooked schedule to head to the doctor, why don't you start by increasing your vitamin and mineral intake. Include foods that are iron rich and see how you feel. Make sure you are getting everything you need and not using more then you are replenishing your body with. Check out info at www.oligofructosecompound.com
I found it extremely interesting and although I was taking one of the best multi's on the market according to the label, this one has given me the energy I need to meet the demands of a 2.5 yr old and 8 month old boy, a hubby that leaves the house at 7AM and gets home at 8-9 PM, and starting my own business. I couldn't be happier with my energy!
Just taking 20 mins in the beginning to excercise/take a walk each day will help your outlook and your energy as well. The first week, you may need to push yourself. I told my hubby- kick me out of bed at 5- I don't care if I wine or get mean- don't let me off the hook.
This has helped my energy and mood each day!
Best wishes momma- I am sure you are doing a great job!

It's hard having your body go through that much change and then all the changes with having a baby, getting used to a schedule, etc. I'd say give it a year before you can expect to be less tired...but I'm still tired a lot of time time and have two small children. I think it's because even when they are asleep and I'm in bed, I hear them making noise, I wake when they do, etc so I never get a full night's sleep and it really affects me. I have started working out and really watching what I eat and I've noticed in the past two weeks since starting to work out that I sleep better (even if it's not very much each night!). I also think this time of year does it for some people!
