Wow!- I was driving home from work in the morning (20 degrees) , and my back window in my ragtop just shattered! Now four different glass companies are saying the ragtop must be replaced also, along with the window! The rag is 16 yrs old, I guess. The stitching is in fact deteriorating in several places. Anyone ever get insurance to help you pay for the rag top also? Man, this is going to be expensive ):

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The window is covered, thats no problem. Its the ragtop that needs to be replaced that I am concerned about. I think the window shattered- in a million pieces- due to cold. There are no clues to anything hitting it.

Did a rock hit the window? That may be covered. Wear is generally not covered.

Windshields in cars tend not to shatter as a result of heat or cold.
Temp changes in cars are not that rapid.
Glass in windshields is different from a glass bowl and a glass bowl will break if it heats/cools quickly and unevenly.
It's possible something struck your window.
Or maybe something scratched/scored your windshield earlier and weakened it.
The wear and tear on the rag top is just age related (it's not like anyone vandalized or slashed it).
It's unlikely insurance will cover it.

I'm an insurance agent in AZ. Generally, insurance does not cover wear and tear, which it sounds like the ragtop is. So the glass may be covered, but unlikely the ragtop is. Call your claims department to make sure. Good luck.

I've never had a window shatter in the cold - weird!! Now when it was like 10 below up north, I put the window heater part on high and it caused a crack to run across my windshield. That was hot against extreme cold though.

20 degrees isn't cold. At 20 degrees the kids aren't even wearing their winter jackets yet! Up here we have -20 to -30 degree F weather for weeks at a time and our windows don't shatter.
