Hi ladies! I am considering having the Essure procedure. I have a couple of questions. Are you asleep for the procedure? What was your pain level afterwards? Is a tubal better? I definately want something done. I do not want and IUD. What is your experience with the cost of both precedures? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I know someone who had it done. She had light anesthesia, she did well, it was no pain, just a little discomfort, and she had had it now for about 6 months. She thought it was the best thing she could do without being cut.

EASY...send hubby for a vasectomy! It's an easy procedure with fewer side effects for men. My hubby had one 27 years ago and did not have any issues at all. I have never met any woman who has had her tubes tied that did NOT have a problem later. I am not familiar with the Essure procedure.

I was thinking of doing the Essure too untill I read about Adiana (http://www.adiana.com/). This sounds better than Essure, it only uses a small silicone implant the size of a grain of rice to block your tubes. Not sure on the cost though.

I'm sorry I'm not answering your question directly, but I just wanted to suggest a vasectomy for your husband if you are married. It costs WAY less, it has very few complications, recovery time is faster, pain is less, the procedure is faster, the list goes on and on about the benefits of getting a vasectomy VS. an essure or tubal. Just a suggestion! Now, this wouldn't be helpful at all if you aren't married, but if you are- look up some facts about it!

I just had the Essure procedure done 2 months ago. My insurance covered it so I'm not sure on cost but they would only cover it if it was done in the hospital, not at my OB's office. I was completely asleep for it, in and out in about 2.5 hours. The pain level afterwards I'd say was equal to heavy period cramping, the next day I was fine. I had some bleeding for about 2 days afterwards and that was it.

I don't know much about the Essure procedure, but here is a website for post-tubal women that might help in your research of that: www.tubal.org
Also, here is one about the surprising effects of many vasectomies: www.dontfixit.org

I had this procedure done in Nov 2008 and am extremely happy about it! It was an in and out thing, only had to have some meds that day to relax me and ease any sort of pain. Felt equivalent to period cramps for a day or two after, nothing life altering by any means. You are not asleep and can actually even watch on a monitor what they are doing. I had Humana insurance and it was entirely covered. They have you get a MRI (I think that's what it was) a couple months later to make sure you have complete blockage, which I did on the first time around. That too was covered by the insurance I had at the time. I am extremely happy with the procedure!

My BF just had the Essure procedure done and is extremely happy with it. She did a lot of research and choose the Essure because it is permanent and is less trouble than having to go into the hospital and have surgery. She went to the Doc's office, laid down, and had it done. I don't think she was asleep because she got right up and they went out to eat Sushi and went shopping after eating. She had some cramping the next day, she said it was like period cramps, and that was all.

As for the cost, her insurance does not cover the procedure and she and her husband talked about what to do and he said they would pay the cash to have it done. He agreed with her decision to have this one over any other and it would cover her deductible for the year. It was just over a couple thousand I believe for the whole thing, pre-procedure visit, procedure, and after visit to test it \to see if it is successful.
