I'm scheduled for an Essure procedure for sterilization. Has anyone had this procedure? What did you think of it? Anything I should know? I'm a little concerned because I'm still having pelvic pain after my delivery. I will be 6 weeks post-partum when the procedure is done.

What can I do next?

I got the Essure done shortly after it first came out, I believe in 2004 when it was still done in the hospital (I was the 3rd one my Dr did)

I have had no issues at all with it at all. In fact, love it. I had the IUD's and several different types of pills before that and with this, I am finally happy! The only draw back, is if you change your mind, and want more children, chances are very slim to reverse the procedure.

I chose mine due to having cancer in 2000 and knowing I didnt want to have more due to the high risks.

Hope this helps and if you need anything or have more questions, you can always feel free to get in touch with me.

Not much help here. I had never heard of this before, but have been reading up on it. Most women say they have cramping for the 1st day or so, but that seems to be all. Let me know what happens. I might want to do this as well.

While I haven't had the procedure done myself, I worked in a private practice OB/GYN office that performed tons of procedures. We never had any complaints from patients...usually just bad cramping for a day or two after. Many patients said it was similar to getting an IUD put in pain/cramp wise. All were very happy with the results.

Good luck.

I haven't had this done, but I've been curious about this since I saw commercials for it, so when I saw your question I read up on it just to solve my curiosity -- my husband took care of the sterilization for us. You may want to clear up the issue of pelvic pain first. If your doctor is ignoring you or putting you off, then find one that will listen. The patient information on the essure says that a few of the test patients asked to have them removed because of increased pelvic pain. And it's major surgery to have them removed. Plus, if your pelvic pain is related to endometriosis, it looks like the options for solving that pain are limited once you've had this done. I don't want to scare you off, but make sure you know all the risks and complications. Their documentation really makes light of it, but you have to remember that the sample study was only 754 women -- and just more than 3% had them removed because of pain. Good luck to you.

A.,
I had the procedure done about a year ago. Nothing but a little cramping for about 24 hours. It was about a 15 minute procedure done in the Dr. office. No problems since. I finally just got my first period 2 months ago. I will admit that my periods are alot more intense than before but I can live with that. Good luck and no need to stress.
