I agree. It can only be helpful for both of you. It's helping you digest and break down food for better absorption of nutrients and will help decrease large particles that aren't beneficial.

Hi N.,
Enzymes are very good for you and is one of the reasons that breast milk is so good for your baby. You are fine!

It may improve your utilization of nutrients and thus make your breast milk more nutritious. It could also improve your body's ability to detox harmful elements that you are exposed to. Those effects can help your baby.

Look into probiotics, even he can take them. Talk to nutritionist at one of your health food stores.

N.,

I saw your post and I actually just went to a conference that was given by a doctor. I own an online healty and beauty website. He was educating us about supplements and who should take them and why. One thing he talked about was the probiotics and that everyone including children should be taking them for our immune systems. I don't think it should hurt your baby, but you may want to check with your ob/gyn too.

Good luck,

S.

I would contact a lactation consultant. Some areas have them for free. Manatee Memorial has an excellent one. And she is free. good luck

Hi N.,

It can only help him. The better your digestive system is working, the better his nutrition will be. Enzymes are simply things that are already supposed to be in your system. You're not adding anything that isn't supposed to be working for you in the first place...

Congratulations on your little one!

I doubt it, however before taking any medication whether it be herbal or chemical, you should always consult your pediatrician first.

Hi N.,

I agree it couldn't hurt him. I know my daughter's pediatrician thinks the enzymes likely do not make it through the breastmilk, though he also knows he is not an expert in that area.

I remember you had also asked about colic with your son. I think when the colic is due to food intolerance, that enzymes could be a help in breaking down foods in his stomach. So you may see whether or not your enzyme intake affects his digestion if you start taking enzymes.

In case you want to try enzymes for your baby to take directly, I did find one company called Houston Enzymes that emailed me an enzyme dosage they recommend for infants. HTH!

Simple rule while breast feeding, don't put anything in your body you don't want in your child's body.
