My mom just called with a GREAT idea for a girls' boutique item. I really think this idea could fly, but we don't know the first thing about finding someone who can make it (Mom's working on a rough prototype right now), or help fund it, or anything. Does anyone out there know anything about starting a new product line? We need a plastic manufacturer, and although Mom & Dad can fund it pretty much themselves, it would be nice to have some help with getting the item made & onto some place like QVC. Any suggestions?

You need to go the the US Trademark website.
The first thing I would do is check to see if there is a patent--if not--get O.!
This is a good resource.
They help a lot of Mom "inventors."
It is legit.
There is a business group that is all about moms starting businesses... can't think of their name right now but Google it. I believe MOM is in the name.
I believe they have the ability to help new companies w/ the needs you've expressed. I'm sure they take a % of the profits... but worth it if you can get your product to market w/out having to re-invent the wheel. Good luck!
