My son has had chronic sinus infections since he was about 6 months old, he is 18mos now. We were finally referred to an allergist, who discovered; after a cat scan, that his adenoids were moderately / severely inflamed. He recommended having his adenoids removed. So I am now wondering if anyone can recommend an ENT surgeon? Also, can anyone tell me what there child went thru when they had their adenoids removed.

What can I do next?

My daughter had been suffering from constant sinus infections that caused her to have a horrible asthma cough at night. And if left untreated, she would have to be rushed to the hospital for a steroid shot. We had her adnoids only removed. That is not as bad of a recovery as having the tonsils removed. She had a little pain the 2nd night. But that was it. She had it done in Nov and has had a couple of colds since then. Colds would have sent her right back onto steroids and antibiotics since her adnoids were so blocked. I am so grateful to Dr. Matheny for taking care of her. Hope that helps.

I was going to recommend Dr. Gamble and Greg Rohn in Plano, but I see that Dr. Evans (from the same practice) has already been recommended. I had my surgery (parotidectomy) in Presby Plano on Dec 28th and everything went well. I highly recommend them. they also see children, and they have a small reading and play area for them in their office, which is very nice.
here's their website if you'd like to check them out:

My daughter was 5 years old when she had her tonsils and adenoids removed. Her doctor was wonderful and she liked him a lot as well. She normally hates to go to doctors but whenever I mentioned we were going to see Dr. Kronenberger she actually got excited. He also happens to be very pleasant to look at.

J., I'm so sorry to hear that your son is faced with this surgery. My husband had it done last year, however and they told him that the recovery is MUCH harder the older the patient, so the upside is that you are getting this done early! I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Socorro Chamblee she was my husband's surgeon and has operated on a number of my friend's children as well. Her office is in McKinney and the number is ###-###-####. Good Luck!!

You should check out Dr. Kevin Kadesky. He's the best! He did my son's lingual frenulectomy and he was so pleasant, through and did not do anything that wasn't warranted just to charge the insurance company. He is very patient and compassionate! Good luck!

Oh, I cannot tell you enough good things about Dr. Evan Bates in Plano (he has an office at Dallas Presby as well). My son had an adnoid tonsilectomy this past April and Dr. Bates and his anesthesiologist are just the sweetest more caring men and extremely intelligent. They are conservative, so they carefully evaluate the child before recommending surgery and if it's needed, they don't hesitate. Dr. Bates has performed 3 surgeries on my son and I have total faith and confidence in him and feel absolutely relaxed knowing my son is in his care. Dr. Bates was voted best ENT in D Magazine several years in a row, including 2006. My son also has a neck condition that requires extreme caution so as to prevent a spinal cord injury and tiltling his head back to do surgery is risky business, but Dr. Bates was able to handle this with no issues and kept his head in a neutral position during the surgery. He is extremely skillful. And his demeanor is phenomenal. He's kind of quiet, but very warm, never rushed, answers all your questions like you're an equal to him.

As far as the aftermath, it's not fun, obviously. But, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. My son was in pain, but we gave him pain meds as needed and that managed it. He did lose a lot of weight because he refused to eat and he wasn't allowed to return to school for 10days (he was 4 when the surgery was done)but he was up and playing around the house around day three just fine and we never had issues with bleeding (which they say sometimes happens around day 7 when the scab falls off) and now he's fine. We had it done because my son had obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. bates ordered sleep studies before and after the surgery and now my son sleeps great!

Good luck!

Our ENT Dr. Gottlieb is awesome!

My girls (then ages 2 and 3 & 1/2) had their tonsils/adnoids taken out last Jan. And that was the best thing we did for them. My youngest literaly was sick the first two years of her life with strep & high fevers. My oldest rarely showed any signs of being sick except that she snored. Her adnoids were so large that she couldn't breath through her nose which could eventually cause heart problems (due to lack of oxygen).

My girls were bed ridden the day after surgery. We camped out in their playroom & watched movies & slept all day. By day 3 they were pressuring me to leave the house. I thought we shouldn't until I called Dr. Gottlieb - he said to get out & go get some ice cream at McD's! The girls flurished & was back to normal by day 5. We have yet to have strep throat again (*knock on wood*) & my oldest is able to sleep throughout the entire night.

Of course, being a mother, I was scared to death about them having any kind of surgery but Dr. Gottlieb is very nice & took my concerns seriously. His office is near 190/Renner in Richardson but has a seperate sugery clinic off of Park/Dallas Tollway.
