Hello mammas!!
So, I have struggled for YEARS with fatigue and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia by bloodwork, and raynauds. I am so so tired all the time and now I am finding it is hard for me to lose weight. I always knew it woudl not be as easy as it was when I was a teen, but man!! Anyway, I wzs wondering if anyone out here could recommend something tha tI could take that would give em the energy and boost that I need! I figure with more energy maybe my body will perk up a little and it will help me lose weight! Yes I do drink a lot of water, and exercise, as much as I can, thank you!!
Please no negative, I don't need to feel any worse about asking for help....

I have a rheumatologist and he is sincere about my care, although I feel overprescribes drugs. I take Cymbalta which aside from helping with the obvious depression, I have found that after a month it FINALLY started to help with the nerve pain and sensitivity which is horrible!! I have had sleep studies done, hence the reason why I had my tonsils and adenoids out.....I do feel great when I exercise, but NOTHING takes away from the fatigue, I could spend all day in bed. I am just so depserate, I am going back to school soon, and I just don't want to deal with this anymore!!! I get my blood drawn everytime I see my rheumy and it's always the same, ANA positive, high TITRE, PANCA, and low blood sugar and vitamin D, which I take vit D daily now....

What can I do next?

My favorite "energy" supplements are l-carnitine, acetyl-l-carnitine, b-complex, co-q-10 and tyrosine.

Exercise is great, but it's much harder for me when I'm nutrient depleted.

I work with alternative and integrative health care practitioners to get my dosages. I would not just willy-nilly start supplements without some professional support.

It also helps me to keep a close food, supplement, exercise and energy diary - I can sometimes spot hints as to what is helping and what is not.

Good luck - hope you can get some answers.

PS: I don't have fibromyalgia but I do struggle with energy issues.

Have your blood drawn again and your thyroid, hormones, iron and potassium levels checked. If you are taking medication for your Fibromyalgia - some of it can deplete your body of potassium - no potassium and your muscles are "tired" and don't want to work.

Talk to a nutritionist. He/she will help you plan a diet that works for YOU and YOUR body.

I hope you feel better soon!!

The problem with weight loss mostly through dieting is the lack of energy. I take tons of vitamins but if I don't eat well my energy drops through the floor.

Have you considered asking your doctor if he knows any cardio workouts that are easier with your condition? Really cardio is the only way to boost your energy levels.

I've struggled with weight issues and fatigue same as you. I do find that the moment I sit down or get home I'd done also what I each for lucnh has such a big impact on me being tired. I like comfort foods so to eat a salad every day does me no good and leaves me wanting. So I starting mixing a little salad with some comfort food my body got use to it. Now I can go a day and have a nice big salad that will not leave me tired afterwood but will allow my self 2 rolls so I get the taste of comfortfood.

Hi S.-

My pete has fibromyalgia. He recently started a drug called 'provigil'. It is generally prescribed for people with narcolepsy. It has really made a difference in terms of his 'wakefulness'. We have both now joined the 'y'...and I am amazed (and pleased) that both this drug (and the workouts) have been so helpful!

It is a pricy drug...and not included by all insurances...

Maybe ask your doc?

I wish you well...

Vitamin D needs fat to dissolve in-so you want to make sure not to eat anything low fat or fat free. Fat does not cause fat to be formed nor does it lead to heart disease, diabetes...etc. Sugar is the problem-cut out all the sugar you can-eat only whole grains and fresh fruit, lots of veggies and meat. Keep moving as much as you are able-and good luck!

My typical day is an average burn of 2900 calories. I am on a new medication where the thought of food makes me want to throw up, so there have been days where I am only consuming 1100 calories. So 2900-1100= 1800. That 1800 is the weight loss deficit (3500 for every 1 pound to loose) K, seems awesome enough and you would think the weright would be flying off. BUT When yur body has a high deficit, your metabolism will start to decrease, and your body will go into starvation mode. it is best to keep that deficit between 500-800

To keep track of my calories burned, consumed and excersie I bought a BodyBugg. It's a device I wear on my arm and is the only device on the market that is clinically proven to give you 100% accuracy. If you go to bodybugg.com there is more information and testimonials. I don't have fibromyalgia but I do know there are people who use it that have other medical complications at loosing weight, but have been able to do it using this device. If you have facebook you can also go to their facebook page and see the community/support that they offer.

That being said, getting at least 30g of protein a day, drinking 64 oz of water, and having enough fruits, vegis, and lots of fiber is key. Good luck and don't give up! Remember any weekly loss is still a loss, and YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I don't know anything about fibromyalgia, but maybe you should ask your doctor for advice since you're still so tired. For weight loss, controlling your diet and exercise is the best way. Expend more calories than you take in. It sounds like the fibromyalgia may make it more difficult for you but not impossible. Good luck!

Hey S.,
I have fibromyalgia as well and I know exactly what you are going through! My fatigue was almost debilitating and my doctor put me on a low dose of Adderall. Not only has it taken away most of the fatigue, it has helped with the Fibro pain (I am not on Cymbalta) and it actually helps you lose weight. My doctor told me that even though it is a drug that is used for ADHD, they are just starting to experiment with it for Fibromyalgia with great success.
Hope you feel better soon!
