I had an endoscopy done today. Ive been on heartburn meds for a long time so they wanted to check to make sure there wasnt anything serious going on. The dr said she didnt see anything cancerous, no erosion, and things looked fine. But my stomach was swollen. She took a biopsy and sent it off, but didnt tell me anything.
I was wondering if anyone had any clue what a swollen stomach could mean. I hadnt eaten or drank anything for 12hours prior to the test. Could it mean simply: hunger, lol?
I tried to research it but came up w/ nothing.

What can I do next?

Hi Kristi,
It could be H. Pylori- that can cause serious heartburn and a swollen stomach. It's a bacterial infection that you can get via food, it's common in developing countries but you can also get it here. It's cured with a few weeks of antibiotics. They can test it with a biopsy or with a simple breath test if you drink this medicine, also with a blood test. Have you been on vacation to Mexico or the Caribbean? Or have you had any sushi or any undercooked meats? If it turns out to be H. Pylori (it's very common), have everyone in your family tested too because you can pass it back and forth to each other.

Constipation? Gas? Even with regular bowel movements, there could be trapped waste that accounts for a bulging belly. I wouldn't worry about it unless she calls back with additional information. If she hasn't called back by end of this week, I'd call and ask for results.

Kristi,

I am not sure about swollen stomach's but, I know that a inflamed(swollen) intestines can mean Chron's Disease which can affect any part of the digestive tract from the mouth to the colon. (including the stomach) My father was diagnosed several years ago and it took the Drs. a while to figure it out. It has many symptoms including hartburn, irregular bowles, intolerance to various foods...
Good Luck, My prayers are with you.
Best wishes,
C. G
