Endometrial Ablation - Urbana,IL

I had a tubal ligation in 2005 after my 4th child and have had very heavy periods every since. My doctor suggested Endometrial ablation a couple of years ago but I declined as I've already had several surgical procedures in my lifetime and was trying to avoid another. However, it just seems to get worse and worse as Ive had several occasions where Ive bled through my clothing during the workday. I would appreciate any advice from those who have had this procedure.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the good feedback. The extreme loss during my cycles led to severe anemia which was not being helped by iron supplements, so I have finally scheduled it for next month.

I had it done about 6 years ago and had some cramping for a couple days. It was worth it. No more heavy periods but I also had fibroids that it took care for only a few years. The fibroids ended up growing back and I had a hysterectomy this pass March. So far no regrets though.

If you don't want the surgery you will have to change/check more often. You know your cycle is heavy and my need a super tampon and a overnight pad on those really heavy days. Wearing a panty gurdle will keep others from seeing the pad through your clothing.

I had never heard of this proceedure until my OB suggested it as a cure for my heavy periods. I am so glad she did. The procedure was simple, almost no down time and I haven't had a period since. So happy that I did it. Good luck.

My neighbor's dr. attempted this procedure for her, but there were other issues and ended up doing a hysterectomy. She is very happy and healthier than she has been in years.

I had it done in February. I have occasional spotting, every 2 months or so for about a day. I still get moody and have a minimal amount of cramping before the spotting. It is soooo much better than what I used to go through! Do your research and ask questions. I could have used one more day of recovery, but it wasn't too bad.

I had it done a couple of years ago (also removed some pretty nasty fibroids) and it was wonderful. The surgery was very quick, had minor cramping for a couple of days and the periods are GONE!! I wish I had done it sooner. Good luck.

I had this done about 2.5 years ago. I love it! Quick recovery and never missed any work. I know others who have had it and also love it.

My mom had that procedure for the same reason as you. Her dr told her to expect watery discharge, but it lasted much longer than she thought it would and was a pain. Just FYI. Look into a natropath , or acupuncture. I would want to avoid surgery as well.

I had that done on July 1st. It was a simple outpatient surgery. It was a couple thousand even with insurance after all the costs. I felt like my insides were going to fall out for the first two days afterwards. Every bump and jiggle really hurt. By the third day it felt much better and by the fourth is was really fine. I have had one period since, and it was a wipe and go type. It did last 2 weeks, but didn't even need a pad. Have not bled all of Sept or October, everything works the same as before. I still get my headaches and food cravings that I would normally get, but no cramps.

I have a friend that had it done and it ended up leaving so much scar tissue that when she was supposed to have her period it couldn't leave her body. She would be doubled over in pain from the cramping. She also ended up with a hysterectomy.
