Embarrassing... Will Yoga Ever Be ... Ehhhemmm Not Noisy?

So I really feel that I can be open with my mommy friends about everything from cracked nipples to disciplining my toddler but there is one thing I just can't bring myself to talk about. So hear I am. I am asking my internet mommas. I had my second baby 3 months ago. My first was only 6 pounds. This one was 8 lbs. And he did a number on my uterus! It has taken me longer to get in shape (in know its only been 3 months). I tried to do a yoga video and to my horror my now stretched out uterus is cavernous and taking in air. And making horrible noises. Is it ever going to get back to its shrunken self or will I have to stay away from group exercises!!!?? I love pilates and yoga. Anyway to get around this? Any herbs or movements besides keegles? Thank you!

What can I do next?

Oh my goodness, I totally forgot about the embarrassing, post-partum vagina fart. Believe me, it will definitely go away with time and exercise and proper clothing. I found that it happened more in poses with my feet placed higher and while wearing loose fitting underwear.

If you can stand to exercise in tighter fitting, spandex style shorties, or a one piece type of speedo bathing suit, or a support tummy control underwear, it will cut down on the amount of air that slips into you. Then you'll decrease the amount of air being forced out when you switch positions.

This was a great question, as I completely forgot about this odd phenomena.

Happy parenting!!

I just want to thank you for asking this question. I totally forgot about this but had this problem with my first childbirth, but not with my second. It eventually went away on it's own once things tightened up. Keep up the good work! I found it hard to find time to excersize. Good for you!

It will get normal. Be sure you breast feed. It helps so much with the enzymes and hormones that allows your body to correct this

The simple method to avoid that problem - use tampons. That worked for me.

Good luck 8-)

You could also possibly have a rectocele, might want to talk with the doc to rule that out. ;D

I have this same problem! It's so wierd and embarassing. I am four months post-partum, do keegles as much as I can and it still has not gone away.
My husband is always telling me "Why don't you do some sit ups?" or "You should do your stretches while the baby is asleep" but I refuse to do any of that in front of him because I don't want him to hear the noises!

I guess all we can do is give it some time and hope that it goes away.

Keegles are the answer... that is what is going to tighten everything back up again.

Don't just do kegels - to strengthen that entire pelvic area you need to strengthen your glutes. Do a lot of squats with your feet parallel, and every time you come up, engage your abs and pelvic floor. Also do leg lifts. Pilates will help you as well. Just keep at it - you've picked two modes of exercise that will only help you!!

I had this problem, too, but I don't do yoga, I play tennis. It was OK in singles, but in doubles your partner is right next to you most of the time! Anyway, I recently read that it was actually caused by tearing all the way from front to back (which I did, and had an episiotomy, too), b/c your anus can't hold air in. Are you sure it's coming from your vagina or your anus? Anyway, mine did get better with time. I think kegels help the whole area down there--I would keep doing them, as the other women suggested.

It's not your uterus. It's your hey-nahnee-nanee! Air doesn't go into your uterus! Keep kegel-ing. It will get better.

Are you talking about noises that sound like passing gas? If so, it's actually your vagina that is taking in air and then releasing it. I have absolutely no idea how to prevent that.....sorry!

My post natal yoga teacher told us to expect it... and that no one was allowed to laugh when it happened during class ;)

Keep doing the kegels and the yoga... and doing it at home you can make all the "noises" and no one will hear them.

Try doing a kegel during some of the positions to prevent the air from going in. That works the muscles and helps prevent it from happening.

Yoga is really great for working on internal organs and getting you back to optimal health. And our bodies have a remarkable ability for self-healing and realignment when we give it the nouishment and exercize that it needs. As with practically everything, it just takes a little time. Keep up the good work!

It's not your uterus that is pulling in air. It's your vajayjay. You need to do a lot of kegels and make sure to do them correctly. You have to go for the burn! Work up to holding the contraction--as hard as you can--for at least a minute and do at least 25 of those per day. That is what it takes to get back into shape down there. A few pumps here and there while waiting in line at the grocery store or bank just won't cut it. You have to really work for it.
