Eliminating Milk to Help Acne?

Anyone have any luck clearing up acne by eliminating milk from diet? I'm trying to get to the bottom of my 16 year olds acne. And if eliminating milk did work, do you think it's because of an allergy to milk or do you think it was because of the hormones in milk? Btw, we've been to the derm and have all the acne washes and treatments. But still would like to hear what ones worked for your kids.

What can I do next?

My sister tried the elimination thing for her skin problems and nothing really made a diffrence. No chocolate, she had break outs. No milk, she had break outs.No meat, got break outs. Still with creams and washes she had to deal with it. Eventually she grew out of it. Hormones will do a number on one's skin. My own child had to deal with break outs for a while and they stoped. The acne was gone almost as fast as it appeared. I gave her a facial scrub she did once a week and for bad pimples good ole Clerasil. And we left it alone, no squeezing or fussing with it. Good luck with your son's skin.

I know my skin used to flare up when I ate dairy. Didn't matter what kind. I had horrible acne from about age 9-well now. I haven't had a break out since I got pregnant and my baby is now 7 months old.
I went through three rounds of accutane when I was about 13-14. Acne sucks it hurts and being a girl with it was even worse.
I tried every wash, cream, scrub, topical ointment there was at that time and the accutane was the only thing that helped lessen the problem. At about 18-19 things leveled off for me. I usually had one or two at all times but they weren't as large or painful.
Good luck. Don't hormones just suck!

Diet was big. Elimination of Candy & lots of sugar stuff worked well in our house. I went by the theory...... "junk IN, Junk OUT" ( on your face)

I had NO junk around the house, lots of veggies, a few fruits, and snacks were healthy. Your milk idea is a great one. We had started using Almond milk.

My derm swears nothing in your diet causes acne, but I have read that caffeine can aggrevate the skin. My dad said chocolate caused me to break out, but I ate chocolate when I pms'ed and thats why I would break out, nothing to do with chocolate. Thank Goodness! Have you tried tetracycline? Worked for me as a teenager.

Hello. I don't know about milk, but here are a few things that I have seen work for me.

- remove all artificial colors, flavors and the preservatives BHA, BHT, and TBHQ and remove foods that are high in salicylates (look at www.feingold.org for a list) - this cleared up my face as well, if not better than the prescriptions.

- use witch hazel and then swipe tea tree over the whole face too like a toner. Stinky, but it works well especially if the breakouts are due to yeast or bacteria. The smell fades fairly quickly. Due it first thing in the morning and it should be gone before school.

- rub Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) over the areas that break out bad.

- other people swear by the candida diet though I didn't really see any improvement myself on it.

I hope you find something that works! That's really tough. I was fortunate enough to have nearly perfect skin as a teenager, but when I hit 30 my face turned into a teenagers and that was really embarrassing since most people are all out of it by then.

I tried to do that and it actually made mine 10 times worse. Not only it is worse, they are the deep painful ones all over, very frustrating!!

Maybe research holistic medicine. I have heard that sometimes vitamin supplements may help clear the skin. Unfortunately, I think most teenagers experience acne at some point. If you or your husband had acne during the teenage years, your children most likely will too. Good Luck! Remember....there are a lot of different dermatologist out there. If you are not happy with the one you saw....try someone new.
