Electrical Outlet Obsession?!?

My nine month old son is FASCINATED with outlets. We have outlet covers in them but he seems drawn to them and wants to touch them so much. When I tell him no he laughs like it is funny. I am telling him no in a firm voice and moving his hand away, so I not sure why he thinks this is funny. If I redirect him or move him from the area he keeps going back over and over. Maybe he thinks it is a game. I am really at a loss over what to do and why he giggles when I am trying to reprimand him. What do you suggest I try to get him over this obsession? Thank you Mommas!

So What Happened?

So we tried telling him no and then "ignoring" him until he comes away from the outlet. Works like a charm! He comes right away from it now when we turn our back to him. Thanks mommas!

My 11 month old does the same exact thing, and so does the 8 month old that I babysit. Except, they like the dvd collection the most. I actually started swatting my daughter's hand, and she laughs at that too. She just started crawling into the fireplace. Today she pulled the flue down and soot poured all over her. I can't keep her away! Good luck, it just gets worse. Just stay consistent, but he won't stop this any time soon. There's too much to explore!

My youngest son was that way when he was younger and I finally had to start popping his hand for it because it could potentially be very dangerous. Good luck.

If they are safely covered, then dont worry about it. If she is pulling out the chords, then buy the protectors that go over the chords, if she is able to pull out the outlet covers, then buy the ones that twist. My opinion is always to keep things safe and worry less! For ex, my dvd's and everything like that are locked in a cabinet that they cant open, we have gates across the kitchen, door knob covers, out let covers, chains across the front and back door. I just dont want to think about problems arising, so I prevent them. Is it beautiful to look at..no, but my littlest children are safe, and I can go to the bathroom, or be on the computer, without fear. Hang in there, the more attention they get, the more exciting the game!! ~A.~

The more attention you give to him the more he is going to do it. As long as they are covered and he is not able to remove them he will be fine. If he can remove them then buy the whole outlet cover that is what I did with my son. He love to try and stick things inside the outlets. We just made sure to cover them all and now he doesn't seem to even care about them anymore. The only problem was when we went to people houses that did not have covers you just have to watch them very carefully.
