We are buying a house...yay! We have lived in all bills paid apartments for the longest time, I have no idea what to budget for electricity, water & gas. We are a family of 4 and our house is a 2 story, 2300 sq ft., built in 2007 and does not have the techshield.
If you don't mind sharing the information (please feel free to send me a private message) can some of ya'll please give me the square footage of your house and the amount you pay for these services and is someone home all day? Are you referring to summer or winter bills? I know it will vary greatly, I'm just trying to get an idea so I can budget. I am a stay at home mom so I'm sure that will make a difference.
If you have tech shield or had it installed after your house was built, did you notice a significant decrease in your electric bill?
I know this is kind of a personal question and I truly appreciate any responses I get.
We have a 2600sq. ft. home built in 2004. I stay at home with 4 kids. Our summer electric bill averages $250 and water about $170. Gas in the summer is $35. Winter months gas goes up to $95, water $70, and electric goes down to $100. I have put al energy saving bulbs in the house. I know they are expensive to buy but they definitely save on electric. I've seen a big difference. In the summer months our ac is set on 77 day and night.
Hi Brenda, There are many other factors that will determine your electric usage. When we lived in a 2400 sq. ft. house on the west side, we only had single paned windows and lots of them facing south and west and our monthly bill was over $500 (average). We now have 3800 sq ft., double pane windows - NONE facing west and our average is only $250!!!! Maybe not even that much. Yes, the summer months are almost $400, but one bill in dec. was only $60. We also had tinting on both houses - that helped SOME in the first house - just not dark enough - we learned....You can do exactly what the other person mentioned - contact the utility company and they can tell y ou.
I cant tell you any amount (we,too are about to buy) but, you can go to the electric company and get an average of the past owners....so I'm told. You can also call the water company to see how much water has been delivered. (again, so I'm told)...
I bought a house in 2003 built around 1980 so it's not built with all the fancy new technology alot of the houses now aday have. It's 2300 square feet, 4 bed, 2 bath and our electricity/water/trash are all on one bill and we pay (what I thought was outrageously high, until I read one of the replies below)300 a month and that's during the "winter" months. The summer is of course higher. I hope this helps.
