I live in South Minneapolis. I am a French Native speaker and I would love to have my daughter in Edina School.
We have a house in Edina that we rent out...I heard that you have chances to enroll if you live in Edina. Does it count if I have a house in Edina? does it count if I am French?
and when am I suppose to enroll my daughter (she is just 2 now).
Thanks for your help!!!

My child attends the French Academy of Minnesota in St. Louis Park on Cedar Lake Road between Hwy 100 and Hwy 169. They follow the French School system (and are accredited by the French Ministry) so enrollment begins at 2.5 yrs old in the Tres Petite Section. He just finished Petite Section (for 3 yrs old and equivalent to Pre-School in the US system) and is going to be in Moyenne Section in the Fall (roughly equivalent to Pre-K in the US System).

My understanding from others is that if your primary residence is in Edina then you have priority for enrolling your child at the normandale French Immersion school off Hwy 100. That school begins at Kindergarten level.

hi S.,
i know the french immersion school is difficult to get into. but i also think you don't have to live in edina - as edina schools have an 'open enrollment' system. my recommendation would be to call/visit the school and find out your options! they'd probably love to have a native speaker! good luck!

Dosen't hurt to enroll now. The international school on the corner of 494 and 62 I think its I think Eden Prairie might be another option. I have a friend that has a child in there.

Start talking to the school NOW! Probaly gonna have to get on a waiting list and if you wait til your child is ready for kindergarten most schools/programs are filled up.

Hi S.. My son attends The French Academy in St. Louis Park. (We live in SW Minneapolis.) We have checked out the Edina French immersion school. They start at Kindergarten, and abide by the state laws for age requirements, as they are part of the Edina Public School system. I believe the age requirement is that the child has to turn 5 yrs. old by the beginning of September to enroll in Kindergarten. There is an "Early Start" option (with approval from the school) that allows a child turning 5 by late October to enroll. Being a French speaker won't matter for enrollment (I believe), but of course will help your daughter personally. Edina does have "open enrollment", so you may have a chance to get in when the time comes, even though your primary residence is not in Edina. (I understand that you have to be actually living there.) As a non-resident, you are ranked lower for priority in enrollment. I know some families who attend there and really like it. I also know some French families who don't like it. We chose The French Academy (which we really like), because it has only French natives on the staff, most here on Visas, so the accent is perfect. They also follow the French curriculum, and their enrollment rules are much different, regarding age. (They start with Preschool and can enroll at 33 months.) They are also accredited with the French Ministry of Education, so are basically a French school here in the U.S. They are a private school, which means private school tuition. An advantage for Edina, as they are a lot less expensive for a non-resident of Edina. I would be happy to tell you what I know (pros and cons) for both schools if you would like, as my husband and I have really looked into all this. Just respond personally, and we can get in touch. Good luck!

There is also a french immersion school in St. Louis Park on Cedar Lake Rd. French Acadamy of MN http://www.famn.org/
I believe they are accepting of anyone in any district, but you'd want to contact them to be sure. Obviously you'd have to figure out transportation, but SLP isn't too far. Good luck!
