HI
I was wondering if there is a mom (or two ) out there that can give me some advice. I think my son has Eczema (spelling) ( I will be calling the doc too) my son has always had topical rashes on his face from different foods. recently I noticed that he has this red sometimes white and patchy rash on his cheek. it seems to be happening only when we are outside (in the heat) or he gets overheated. I have used a cortizone cream on it and it seems to work, although Im not a big fan of doing this everyday. thanks for your advice

What can I do next?

Does the rash have small white bumps on it? Feel the back of his arms and legs as well. My daughter has something called Keratosis Pilaris (KP). It took me forever to have it diagnosed properly - everyone kept saying it was eczema. KP is a genetic condition - many people have these bumps on the backs of their arms. It is not contageous or harmful. It can be aggravated by extreme heat or cold, especially on the face, and become red and the bumps more pronounced. It can sometimes be itchy (although, my daughter has not had this symptom), and it feels like she has dry, rough patches. It can become better with age, but at a young age, there is not much you can do about it except use some good moisturizing creams. When he gets older, you can use some prescription medications if it bothers him, but it's really not a big deal. Obviously, check with your dermatologist - that's who finally diagnosed my daughter, to see what it is for sure.
In the mean time, here's a link to the Mayo Clinic's information on it:

Have you tried switching your household cleaners and lotions? I got rid of my daughter's eczema/skin condition simply be switching to melaleuca. I love their renew lotion! They are a safer solution to the toxic household chemicals we are using. check out this website for more info:

I would definitely check with a doctor first. But if you DO find out this is eczema, I'm reading a book where the author (an MD) says that he believes eczema is related to allergies (which sounds like what could be happening if your son gets the rashes when he eats certain foods). The book might not be worth purchasing for you since it actually focuses more on Allergies, Asthma, ADHD and Autism but it does mention eczema a few times. One of the herbal remedies the author (an MD) talks about is Quercitin. It blocks the release of histamines and also prevents inflamation. Of course, you should consult an herbalist or someone more familiar with this compound before trying it but at least it's a starting point! If you by chance ARE interested in the book, it's by Dr. Kenneth Bock and it's called "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies". Thankfully, my daughter has not yet experienced any of these but I have family members who have and this book has really helped me understand the disorders better and also helped me take preventative measures with my own daughter. I've spoken of this book so many times on this website that people probably think that I'm related to the author or publisher and am receiving financial gain by promoting it :) But, honestly, I've just seen my nephew recover from autism through this doctor's methods and it's amazing. So I want to share it with any parent who can glean help! Best of luck!

could be heat rash as well - doesnt sound so much like the excema we had but anyway try some apricot oil instead of the chemical but if its heat putting anything on it at all could make it worse....
