Are there any natural treatments for patch of eczema on the eyelid and back of neck on an adult? What about over-the-counter remedies that work? Thanks, Mamas!

So What Happened?

Thanks, Mamas! Used Aveeno hydrocortisone; fasted various foods to see if there was a food allergy; and stopped wearing makeup. Eczema started clearing up within a day and was gone totally within a week! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Will save this message in case there's a flare-up in the future.

My 2 yr old has it all over his body! Salt water helps a lot and gold bond even works too. Nonscented though cause it can burn a little. The best thing I have ever used was Aveeno 1% hydrocortizone. A little pricey but its worth it!

A.---Consume more omega 3 containing foods. I highly recommend freshly ground flax seeds. Flax is a superfood, containing those omega 3's, lots of vitamins and minerals, fiber, protein and lignans, which contain cancer fighting properties. Another great plant source is walnuts. I use ground flax in all of my cereal, in smoothies and it can be put in baked goods as well; pancakes, waffles, muffins, cookies, etc. In fact, you can combine ground flax with water and use it as a substitute binder for eggs in baking. You can sprinkle it on salads as well. It has a great nutty flavor. But store it carefully. With a high oil content, it must be protected from air to prevent it going rancid.

Here is a website with good sources of 3's---http://www.dhaomega3.org/Overview/Dietary-Sources-of-Omeg.... Be sure that any fish you get is wild caught. Fish that are a good source of omega 3's are so because of the food that they eat in the wild...as nature intended in the natural food chain. Farm raised fish do not eat natural foods and therefore do not contain the nutritional qualities we are looking for here. Combining the ground flax seed with fish oil caps until you get the eczema cleared may be useful as well

Also look at the totality of the diet to help with eczema. Eat mostly fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, legumes/beans, nuts and seeds. About 90% of the diet should come from plants. This offers our bodies the best opportunity to prevent disease, and that includes eczema.

You also want to reduce or eliminate negative foods from the diet. Too much animal protein, artificial colors/sweeteners, preservatives, HFCS, MSG and processed foods all challenge our health. Let me know if you'd like more info. I've been learning these things in a series of wellness classes taught by a Naturopath who has her PhD in Nutrition. My husband used to have eczema but he has been helped greatly by these changes, along with adding with a whole food based supplement to his diet.

In the meantime, while you are patiently waiting for your diet to help, use Burts Bees Rescue Remedy. It comes in a little green tin, contains all natural oils and plant ingredients and works like magic. I use it on mosquito bites, bruises, scrapes. My dad has a scaly skin condition and was given a prescription for it. I gave his some Burts and it works just as good as the script. Check it out. It's great.

Hope this helps. Be sure to get back to me if you have any other questions. I would be honored. Be well, D.

We use Aveeno...in the baby lotion section of WalMart, then look for baby stuff within that section. It is in a stand-up tube and is called Aveeno Baby, Soothing Relief Moisture Cream. The label specifically references eczema and we have had great results. Good luck!

I had a problem with eczema just under my eye and I found that the only thing that made it better instead of worse was Pond's Cold Cream. The skin around the eyes is so sensitive that most of those other lotions that are supposed to be good for eczema just made my eye more irritated.

Also, the best thing I did to get rid of eczema was to stop touching my face with ANYTHING including especially TOWELS, which can contain dust and mold even if you wash your towels more than once a week, and even when you have a just-from-the-dryer clean towel, they are rough enough to exacerbate the problem. So, I just cleaned my eye with Pond's cold cream with a Q-tip and absolutely ignored washing my face, even as best I could avoiding getting it wet in the shower. My eye had eczema for months, but as soon as I stopped washing my face and using towels, it cleared up in about a week. Also, try using filtered water if you find that you MUST wash your face, because tap water contains chlorine which can dehydrate skin a little. Absolutely no soap on faces that have eczema!

Be wary of sunglasses too. No idea what to do if you have to wear glasses!

And also it might be useful to get an allergy test -- for example, I know now that I have a dust mite allergy so I was able to buy dust mite covers for my bed and that has helped a little with my eczema.

We have struggled with Eczema for years until one day a wise Dr. told me to use

CeraVe ( the green bottle ).

We used it, it worked GREAT!

We still use it when needed.

We even use it when someone gets a rash.

This is how to use it.
Put warm water on the area that has the Eczema / Rash and apply the CeraVe.
Don't wash it off, just leave it on.
Give it some time.

You can get it at Wal-Mart.

I wish you the best.

Eucerin lotion is the only thing that keeps the eczema away in our house- my son gets it very badly. It is incredibly thick, but works wonders!

I have a little guy with eczema and we tried every over-the-counter treatment out there. The only thing that worked for him was a trip to the dermatologist and a prescription for Alclometasone Dipropionate ointment (not cream). It is a very mild anti-inflamatory dispensed in a soothing emmolient.

I rub it all over the inflamed areas before bed every night. Also, moisturizing after showers is very important too. If nothing else, the eczema should improve once the cold, dry weather is past. I definitely notice a dramatic change for the better once the air starts to be humid again.

Hope this helps.

I have been lucky with good moisturizers being effective with the body. The eyelid would be harder. I get it on my face and have a prescription for that but when I am pregnant I can't use it and find a&d ointment has improved it. A friend at work swears by goldbond lotion for his which he gets on his legs. Lastly I am not sure why but ocean water has always cleared mine up in a day or two or the salt water in a cruise ship pool. If only, right?

Could be an allergy. I am allergic to Aloe Vera and was thought to have eczema as that was how it presented.

Arbonne's baby line is the only product that helped with my sons eczema. All of the Eucerine, Aquaphor creams are just mineral oil. They do not go into the skin and address the probelm, just sit on top. Arbonne products are botanically based and do not contain any chemical dyes or fragrances.
