So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the great tips. I look forward to being able to stop the steroid creams twice daily. I have read several options I am interested in giving a try.

Interesting fact; 99% of eczema is a food allergy! Seriously. I have a friend that argued with me because her son showed negative for everything...until they tested for the dyes in food and his is a red dye allergy!

My son HAD horrible eczema from about day 2 he was born. Finally at 13 months I got a consult with an pediatric allergist. I was told when I made the appointment they would by no means be testing him that it was just a consult. The poor doctor took one look at him and tested him. He's allergic to egg whites and pork. At 3 as long as we steer clear from these foods his skin looks BEAUTIFUL!

My boys had eczema so severe that they maxed out on the steroid dosage that the dermatologist would prescribe for them. :( It wasn't until we started using Renew Bath Oil in their bath water, Renew lotion on their skin, and other stuff without harsh chemicals that they saw any measurable relief. Their major triggers were chemical related. Once we stopped using cleaning, laundry, bath & body products that irritated their skin (and also started using Renew lotion), their skin was clear in about 3 weeks. We tried so many things & this is what worked for us (and many other people that I've met)! :)

My suggestion is to try Arbonne Baby Care skin products. They are all natural, pure, safe and beneficial. The diaper rash cream is excellent for eczema. When my son's Eczema flares up the only thing that helps is Aveeno Sensitive Lotion for Eczema. I find it in the soap, etc. aisle of Walmart with the diaper rash creams. Don't look over in the baby stuff...it is only with those few baby items in the "Personal Care" aisles.

Both of my sons have eczema and we have yet to resort to steriod creams. We use Gental Naturals Baby Eczema Cream. It works great on our kids. You can find it at Wal-Mart or Target. You have to make sure to moisturize at least 3 times a day with anything you use in order for it to work though. Also, fabric soaps and dryer sheets can aggravate the eczema. Our allergist also suggested using Dove sensitive skin bar soap. Hope that helps...when in doubt call the doctor. If it gets too bad the kids will scratch it and it can cause a nasty infection.

Have you tried "Renew?" It comes from Melaleuca. I had SEVERE eczema until I started using the Renew. Until that time I was trying EVERYTHING. Even my prescriptions did not work as well as the Renew. PM me for more information.

The most common cause of Eczema is reactions to foods with peanuts being one of the top causes. Gluten (the protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats) is another common cause that is often overlooked. Also, unless they biopsy it, they cannot tell Eczema from Dermititis Herpetiformis, which is the skin reaction to gluten. My son has it - he has both the genes for celiac disease, so he gets this skin reaction and the gut and brain reactions to gluten.

I have to agree with Janet...Renew lotion will work the best! Not only will it go away, but working in conjunction with getting all other toxins/chemicals out of your home, you probably won't get any future outbreaks!! :o)

Like someone said before, eczema goes hand in hand with allergies; primarily food. The most common: eggs, corn, gluten (wheat), dairy. My son has had eczema since 3 months, at 12 months found out he was allergic to milk, eggs, nuts, and a slight allergy to wheat and soy. Try eliminating one of the food groups in your diet for about a week to see if it helps. Or, get allergy tests.
I have used and tried everything! Mainly, watching food intakes is the only thing that actualy prevents an outbreak. To treat one, i use Arbonne's diaper cream, which contains mostly zinc. Also, moisturing daily helps soothe the dry skin. Again, we use Arbonne's baby products. Also, Gental Naturals is a nice thick cream that isn't greasy like Aquafore.
hope that helps,
if you'd like any information about the Arbonne baby products, let me know!
God Bless
-S.
