I have struggled with the skin on my thumb for about a year. It has been peeling several layers at a time and the skin underneath is so brittle I cant bend my thumb very well. If it does bend, the skin cracks. It is very painful and also itches. I've been to the doc, twice over this and he has dx me with ecsema and gave me two different ointments...neither one has worked!!! Any other ideas?

So What Happened?

Turns out it was a fungal infection....Nice! So some fungal cream to heal it and cortizone to help with the symptoms...Mostly healed up by now!

Give Bag Balm a try. It worked wonders when my daughter would get diaper rash. It also works great on the underside of her little toe, as she gets severe dry and cracked skin there. Best of luck!

Hi my baby has eczema, she is 2 year old. I am not sure if the medicine that she use would help you.
We went through a lot of creams, some didn't work some did work but for a while. I was a little worry using so many of these medice so I try to use something more natural and leave the creams for severe spots (she sometimes got the ones that actually ooze.
What it seem to help a lot was Aquapor healing oitment. Doctors told me that Vaseline was the seem thing but I notice that Aquapor work better for me.
Be careful how you clean your thumb. Try to don't get it wet as much (washing dishes, laundry, etc) and when you use water only use cold water and no harsh soaps, Aveno is good).
I would recommend you talk to you doc and let him know that what he gave you is not working, you may even need to change doc. but in the mid time, just use tons of Aquapor.
One of the cream that work good for us was Locoid Lipocream (hydrocortisone butyrate 0.1%)
Hope it helps.

Try Renew lotion. It works great with ecsema. I'd be happy to help you get ahold of some, if you'd like. Hope you find something!

eczema is linked to an over-population of candida in the blood. If you want to try an elimination diet- cut sugar from your diet first- make sure you read your boxes and cans to check for sugar content. Second, you'll want to cut all processed carbohydrates from your diet- think cereal, crackers, junk food in general, etc. Up your water intake. And you may need to cut caffeine. Focus on eating 5-6 small meals a day- with a balance of veggies, protein, and complex carbs (brown rice, whole grain pasta), and a little fat.

You should be able to easily identify 90% of your food. (ie whole foods- minimal processed foods)

Let me know if it gets any better.

do you have to wash your hands outside of home a lot? it sounds like you might have a chemical sensitivity to formaldehyde, which is in a lot of hand soaps, shampoos, laundry detergents, etc. My son had the same thing. I swear we tried every cream, lotion, ointment, etc that there was.

the answer for us was getting rid of EVERYTHING with formaldehyde. i dont know how you feel about buying online, but that is what we did, because it was so much cheaper then going to the whole foods store. We just switched over all of our cleaners and body care stuff and sure enough, the eczema went away and has never come back. Actually, the online store that i buy from has a hand wash, body wash, bath oil and lotion all made specifically for people with eczema. it may be something worth looking into. worst case scenario you give it a try, and it doesnt work, kwim?

check out http://www.HealthySafeAndClean.com there is a lot of info there about it and you can request more information and just say that you want to know about eczema relief and someone calls you to help give you options.

what kinda of ointment did ur doc give you? I have had ecsema on my hands fingers and wrists for over a yr now and hydrocortisone cream didn't work. so I feel ur pain (literally! I cant even wear my wedding ring) my doc recomended a steroid cream (I was never able to fill the Rx though so I cant tell you if it works) but maybe you should ask your doc about it. oh and everyone else seems to be recomending cotisone cream...and like I said it didnt work for me, but if your skin if cracked or you ecsema has opened sores you shouldnt use it anyway.

We have a product, Grandma El's salve. It's 100% natural. My daughter uses it on my grand-daughter's eczema and it works really well. If you get in touch with me, I'll send you some samples.
You would probably put it on an keep it covered at night. Can be used throughout the day.

My daughter has ecsema and I took her to a pediatric dermatologist who recommended totally different things than her regular pediatrician. The dermatologist prescribed three different hydrocortizone ointments which varied in strength. It worked like a charm. Since it is your thumb I would recommend getting a rubber cover (the disposable kind) and putting it on after you apply the hydrocortizone.

I get a spot of excema on my arm, the best thing I have found for it is Cortisone Cream Intensive Healing Formula. For me, it worked better than the prescription ointment. Hope it works for you!
