Wondering if anyone had ever tried using these diapers before and if you could offer any insight or opinions. I have not cloth diapered my other ones and was considering it for my next one. I know it will save the earth & my wallet but hubby is a little leary on the idea. We normally got the other diapers from Amazon & they were cheap with their 30% off. We recycle religiously so I am questioning why I didnt' think of this sooner with the other kids.

What can I do next?

They are great if you are on a budget. If you aren't, I LOVE Cotton Babies (the manufactuer to Econobum, Flip, and bumGenius), bumGenius are one of my favorite diapers along with Thirsties, Oh Katy, Flip, and Swaddlebee's.

Tell your husband that it will save thousands (especially if you do it for more than one baby) and it's really not much harder than disposables. He shouldn't worry if you are the one taking care of them. I would get a couple of pocket or All In One (AIO) diapers for when he takes care of the kids so that it's easy for him. The style of diaper that Econobums are, are called a prefold and cover. They are the "hardest" of all the cloth diapers. They aren't hard at all, but the require just a smidgen bit more work than a pocket or AIO. BUT they are easier to clean because you have more separate parts, so things just clean easier. And they are made out of cotton so it's easier to clean than microfibers.
Look at this website:
http://www.cottonbabies.com/index.php?cPath=51
This is where they have their slightly imperfect diapers that are half the cost and work the same as the perfect diapers.
I also have a blog for cloth diapers.
largebummies.blogspot.com- look for the post labels "Question from a mom on mamapedia"
but I have another blog that links to different sized babies. My son is the large, then a skinny, average, and newborn. (newborn is yet to be born so there isn't a link yet)
clothbummies.blogspot.com
You can always PM me for help. I love helping people and love to get people started on cloth diapers :D I hope to make a profession of this somehow.

I agree with everything MegandOllie said. We use mostly bumGenius 4.0's which are made by Cotton Babies, also the maker of Econobum. Our youngest is 26 months and has outgrown most of her diapers. We LOVE gro-via and Rumparooz, but they no longer fit her. Her BG 4.0's still do with lots of growing room.I personally have never tried Econobum, but I will be trying other brands I didn't with my first 2 kids with our new baby due this Fall. I plan on trying G-Diapers, Blueberry, and Swaddlebee's.

I have some flip diapers, a bum genius 4.0, one happy heineys, a few ebay diapers (alva baby and coolababy), but most of my stash is sunbaby. I did a ton of research and found a lot of people that love them. They are 12 diapers for $60 (no tax or shipping added)...that's five bucks a diaper at sunbabydiapers dot com. Even cheaper if you order 24 at once. They are a one size snap pocket diaper. I love them. I always reach for them before the "brand name" diapers. My hubby was totally against cloth, but he doesn't mind them at all. We've just started solids, though, so we haven't had to deal with the poop question (BF poop goes right in the washer). Sunbaby's come in really cute prints too (no upcharge like the name brands) although right now most of their prints are not so cute....they come out with new ones periodically. They are supposed to go 8-35 lbs, although I suspect my fat baby won't be able to wear them at 35 lbs. But when you factor in resale (I can probably get 3-4 bucks a piece if they are still in good shape) you can't go wrong. If she grows out of them, I'll probably get some more coolababy, which definitely run bigger, but don't have hip snaps (which she still needs right now even though she has 11 inch thighs), the pul doesn't wrap around the top into the inside of the diaper like the sunbaby's do, and there is no flap over the pocket. I haven't tried prefolds, but I know some people try pocket diapers and then sell them all to get prefolds and love them for the ease of washing etc (there can be stink issues with microfiber if you don't have your detergent and wash routine right, but I haven't had issues). I suspect I wouldn't like prefolds because I don't like my flip...the insert bunches and flops out etc. Some people love flip though. If you can try several styles you'll get a feel for what works for you. My daughter is 6 months, and we've only bought one box (for vacation) and two bags of diapers (for out and about). We've saved a TON of money already. Sunbaby's do come from China, so they take a little longer to ship (sometimes a month, but you never know) and mine took some extra washing at the beginning to get rid of an off manufacturing smell. It's a little overwhelming at first figuring it all out...detergents, wet bags, diaper creme (can't use regular stuff because it causes repelling, but I hardly ever need any), cloth wipes...but it's so worth it. If you have a cloth diaper store near you they can walk you through it. Good luck.
P.S. I thought I would like velcro diapers like bumgenius better than snaps, but I really like the snaps better. I feel like the velcro is go wide it presses on baby's tummy.

I have one econobum that cotton babies sent to when I ordered some Flip diapers from them. I have Bumgenius 3.0's that I have been using for my son for the last 3 years. I am hoping he will potty train soon and have tried using prefolds to help him along. I also have used the econobum cover over the kissaluvs that I had for my newborn. Now I am using fuzzi bunz one size for the little one because I still have the older one in diapers. If your husband is not feeling the cloth diaper love I would go with he bumgenius velcro. These are most like disposables. Most of mine i bought as seconds from cottonbabies.com I would also get the diaper sprayer, you won't need it for the beginning if your little one is breastfed, but if formula or eating solids you will want to spray the poop out of the diapers. We are on our second baby and we have saved so much money with cloth diapers. My husband is all about money and not the environment and I am about the environment so it has been a good match with the diapers. He is willing to use them when he knows how much we are saving. Also check out craigslist, people are always selling cloth diapers there.
