Is anyone very familiar with EC/IPT? I've gotten both the "Infant Potty Training" book and "The Diaper Free Baby" but I was kind of just looking for support from others who've already had SUCCESS with full or part time EC/IPT. I know that EC/IPT is controversial to some, so please don't offer suggestions or advice unless you support it. Thanks in advance mammas.

There is a huge EC community over at mothering.com/discussions I don't know too much about it myself, but I do at least try to be in tune with my baby's rhythms. You might also be interested in the mothering forums for homeschooling, breastfeeding and AP.

Hi A.!!

I have read The Diaper Free Baby Book" and actually found it to be very insightful. I haven't followed it to the letter, considering I have a 19mo and a 33mo and one on the way. I picked the book up much later than the time they reccomend that you begin the process. However, I am considering it with my third. I can say this, once I placed my oldest in just underwear all the time, even at night, she potty trained in like three days. I haven't had any trouble with it since. Also, I started this week with trying to train my 19 month old. I am hoping I have success, I am trying to read her signs, and learn how to "communicate" with her. I personally find that what the books says is pretty accurate. I lived overseas for quite sometime, and in countries, where quite honestly diapers after a very young 8-12mos were not the norm. I think it can work, and if you decide to go for it.. I wish you the best of luck. Let me know how it works for you!Oh, yeah.. I remember shortly after I read the book I hit the websites they mention, and found that there are surprisingly several groups that are in VA.

Best Wishes!!
K.

Hi Mama!
There is also a HUGE EC-ing, AP-ing, BF-ing, HB-ing community over at thebabywearer.com/forum They are some of the kindest, most helpful moms I have ever encountered online or in-person. I have no EC experience, but I know they would love to answer any questions you might have.
Good luck Mama,!

I read your post and was curious. I have a 7 month old, so I looked at a couple sites and just before his bath tonight I figured he was naked anyway, so I put him on his big sis's potty seat and said "shhhhh". And guess what, he grunted, I looked at my husband, he looked at me and we both said "no way" but yup, he pooped! I still can't believe it!
I will be doing that again!

Hey A.! I've been EC'ing my daughter since she was 6 months old. She is now 9 months old and she is clearly aware of what she needs to do when she sits on the potty. I think EC is one of the easiest things to do - you just learn their cues and take them to the potty. When I know she's distracted, like when she's playing, I take her about every 30-40 minutes to reduce accidents. I also use cloth diapers, which I feel help her realize she's wet when accidents do occur. I hope to have her completely potty trained by the time she's 1 1/2 - 2 years old. I love the concept! good luck!

A.,

I am a mother of 7, 6 of which have been successfully potty trained before 3 yrs old, and number 7 is only 14 months old. I would recommend you look into a book called potty training in less than a day. The book is about $7 and the best investment I ever made. I used it with my first two children, both trained by 2 1/2 yrs and then the rest of my gang followed suit watching their older siblings. This is a quick and reasonable way to train.

Good luck.

i am a mother of five, from my experience boys take up to three years or more, girls usually before a year. my oldest son went in the bathroom with my little brother and was trained instantly. my younger son was three. my girls all before two years. i have a one year old who i say to her "go" and put her on the toilet. this was since she was 11 months. now she is a year and she says go go when she feels the urge. just like anything its a process however they may be doing it because they know that you allow it and there are no sanctions/rewards. they should be put on the toilet together every 30 minutes and say to them who gonna go first. make it a game with rewards(positive reinforcment) good luck
