I ate breakfast when I was pregnant, but only because I was so hungry! You probably should try to at least have an apple or some kind of snack in the mornings.

There is a lot of responses to "eat normally", "eat like you used to". And I have to say unless you were eating 4-5 small meals a day, flooding your body with nutrients, getting enough sleep AND drinking enough water, then sure, keep dong what you were doing. However, you said you are eating 2 small meals and no breakfast.

Here is what I know
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, always has been, always will be. (www.BestBreakfastEver.com) I recommend this to all my clients.
Babies will take what they need from you, they are like a little "alien" and you are it's host. It will suck you dry of your essential nutrients without even a second thought. It is what they do. So if you are doing what you have always done, then the baby is getting what it needs and mama is starving.
Pregnancy is a HUGE change in the body. It is natural and beautiful and it can be stressful. You must feed your body BETTER than ever before to ensure the optimal health of both you and baby.
Food is not longer the same food (when it comes to vitamin, mineral and nutrient content) Notice what you are taking in and realize that the baby is taking it from you. Ask yourself if you are "doing what you have always done" who is losing here?
Sure you can keep "doing what you have been doing" and most likely everything will be fine, but what if...what if something comes up and if you would have "taken better care of yourself, this would have never happened". This is not a scare tactic it is fact. More kids are born with asthma, diabetes, ADHD, autism, you name it and it's MORE.
What if food in the womb and beyond really was the cure for all of that? What if what Hippocrates said in 400 BC really was true...let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.
What if you gave your baby EVERY opportunity available for optimal health?
What if you did?
What could happen?
Just asking.

Eat when you're hungry and stay healthy! The moms who swear by the old wives' tale about eating tons of food "for the baby" are the ones who have 50 extra lbs. to lose. I ate normally, exercised regularly, and gained exactly what I was supposed to.

I just saw your other post. Find a free clinic Planned Parenthod or something like it and get some help for you and your baby.

You should eat about 300-500 calories more per day. That is the equivalent of a snack or small meal. That is what your OB will tell you. You are vert lucky you don't have morning sickness. It is way worse if you have an empty stomach. Not eating will not hurt your baby. It just might make you tired or have an upset tummy. If you are not eating enough your body will take the energy from your fat stores. Do not try and diet while you are pregnant. That can affect your baby. Remember everything you do to your body will in some way get to your baby. So make the most of your meals by eating good fats, lots of protein, extra fiber and dairy foods. eg, avocado, chicken, beans, yogurt, eggs, good fish, and lots of fruit.

Eating regularly throughout the day is better for your overall metabolism - it keeps your blood sugar even and your insulin levels normal. It's hard to predict who will get gestational diabetes and who will not. What is also very important is to eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of protein (beans, meat, for example) because proteins provide the building blocks for the baby's development and keeps your organs healthy.

Prenatal vitamins are good to keep your folic acid (for brain development) and iron levels happy, and be sure to eat plenty of veggies, fruits, unprocessed carbs.

You should be fine. My doctor told me to be sure to eat 3 meals a day, so you might want to start eating breakfast. Even if you only eat a breakfast bar.

Quantity is not as important as QUALITY. The baby will take all the nutritional stuff you eat so you need to make sure you are eating a balanced diet so you both will be healthy throughout the pregnancy. Don't forget to take your prenatals as well! I was never much of a breakfast eater but my doc approved a yummy nutrition shake that I would drink and then I would snack on some fruit. Just listen to your body and take care of yourself. good luck mama!

It is OK to eat normally if by normally means a normal diet of varied fruits, veggies, dairy and protein and enough calories (for some this means 1400, some 2000 a day- depends on the person, size and activity level). You do not need EXTRA calories until the 3rd trimester and then it is like 300 a day (a piece of fruit and extra snack or something). If, however, you were eating like less than 1200 calories a day, that is considered starvation mode and I would talk to your doctor and definitely eat more. Take prenatal vitamins ASAP too :) Best wishes!

I haven't changed any of my eating patterns since before I got pregnant. In the first two trimesters you only need about 200 extra calories a day (the equivalent of most small snacks). But, whatever you don't provide the baby through food and such, they take from your body already (i.e. calcium is taken from your bones, nutrition is taken from fat stores that you already have). Don't practice the "eating for two." Just eat a variety of foods that will provide lots of different nutrients for baby (i.e. fruits, grains, etc.). But, I would try to start eating 4-5 small meals as opposed to two meals a day. Sometimes it will give you more energy throughout the day. I was like you before I got pregnant and only ate two meals a day, but feel much better now that I eat at least 2 and a couple of snacks throughout the day. I have a little more energy. You definitely need to get some prenatals though. You can get them at the drug store to start taking before you can get in to see the Doctor.

Here's an old wives tale: if you eat normal then you are having a girl; if you eat like a teenage boy then you are having a boy. With my daughter, I didn't eat any red meat, only chicken and some seafood. With my son, I ate everything I could fit in my stomach. Ha ha ha. You are only 4 months pregnant so don't worry too much about it. When you are 9 months pregnant, there may be nothing that could keep you full long enough! Ha ha ha. I would just be careful if you get cravings for chalk or dirt or other crazy things, other than that....good luck and congrats! Don't forget, hormones will make you crazy, warn your boyfriend to always have some type of snack or meal ready whem you get super hormonal and lash out like a crazy person. :) My boyfriend learned the hard way.

With my four children girl/boy/ and girl/boy twins...all grown now, turned out perfectly fine, healthy and normal and I ate JUST LIKE I NORMALLY did not being pregnant. The doctors "freaked out" a bit saying I needed to eat more because I wasn't gaining weight according to their little "charts". So, with #1, I gained 12 lbs total (I was overdue 2 weeks also), she was 7 lb. 14. oz. With #2, I gained 14 lbs. total (I was overdue 2 weeks) and he was 8 lb. 2 1/2 oz. and with my twins, they were born 2 weeks early, I gained a total of 20 lbs. and they were 5.6 lbs. and 6.6 lbs. I was NOT going to fall prey to the tale that you had to eat lots more because I didn't want to have a ton of weight to lose afterward. And you know what? I was able to leave the hospital in my regular clothes (with a stretchy waist) but within a couple weeks I was back to normal...So easy and painless! :-) I did however, take my pre-natal vitamins the whole time. You'll be fine and good luck!

I had very little appetite until my third trimester. In fact, I felt totally normal the first three months and then the second three months I could eat nothing but watermelon. I didn't really crave it, that's just the only thing I wouldn't throw up. My doctor said it was fine for the baby, that the body just takes from resources in your body if you don't eat enough.
