My doc has told me to steer clear of fruits like oranges, strawberries and pineapple. When is a good age to start your child on these foods? Any advice would help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you SO much for your advice, I have already given him berries with no problems, I will wait on the rest until aroung a year old and see where things go. Thank you!

Every baby is different and there are books that contridict doctors so everyone has an opinion. If you have immediate family history of allergies definitely steer clear. My son (he's 2) loves pineapple, oranges, etc all the acidic fruits. However his bottom becomes inflammed as soon as he pees. I can't get the diaper off fast enough. So he gets a little in fruit cups but that's it until he's potty trained. He just can't tolerate the acid. So my advice is try things out slowly and if he likes it then great!

I started my first son on these things shortly after his first birthday. The reason to wait is because they are more acidic and harder to digest/strawberries are more often contagious. We never had any problems and my son LOVES oranges!

Hey there, Super Baby Food, Ruth Yaron, the only book I could find with a sensible monthly break down on feeding your superstar!

all of those items are hard on the stomach a 7 months, but then again my husbands mother gave him OJ at two weeks and he is just fine, but all our kids get terrible bloody diaper rash from OJ, we had to nix it until potty trained.Trial and some error, good luck!

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends waiting until 1 year for those kinds of foods, they tend to be more allergenic. I had a friend who gave them to her daughter at 6 months without problem, but it's generally better to wait! Our pediatrician also recommends 1 year old for those things! I saw someone mentioned blueberries, those actually aren't in the same kind of "berries" category as the rest, and are actually one of the least allergenic fruits.

I remember being told no strawberries or highly acidic foods with my 3 older children, but now that the 4th is here, it seems that those things are being pushed on parents.
They have all of those flavors in the Gerber Graduate food/snacks/juice!
I always thought it was at least one year, but now I don't know what to think.
Strawberries are more af a risk if there is a history of food allergies in your family.

They are really hard on the digestive track and bottom when they come out. I would say at least 2. We gave orange juice a lil earlier but it was 1/4 oj 3/4 water. Good Luck!

My ped. said the same thing due to allergies. Wait until at least one year on the strawberries & I think on the other stuff too. The citrus is a new one for me. They didn't tell me that with my son, so I'm waiting until 1 year for those also. She also said any berries, but Claire had already had blueberries. So, we are waiting on all others.

Hi T., when my son whas about 6 months I bought the baby safe feeder (they sell them at wal-mart. target and baby's r us. here's the link to baby's r us: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=240476....
I would put frozen pineapple, strawberries, and melon in the net and my son could hold it by the handle and suck the juice out. It was great for teething!
