So my second daughter only wants to feed herself! We eat, mac and cheese, chicken and veggies nuggets, pancakes, toast, pizza, and of course the cheerios. Any ideas for quick, filling foods for a little one?

Oh, tonight we are trying eggplant parm. Do you think she can just eat whatever we eat?

Hi,

If she has never had eggplant or tomato sauce I would be careful because of possible food allergies.

As far as other finger foods what about the little round pastas (kind of look like cheerios) for finger foods. Cooked carrots cut in little pieces are also a good finger food. Has she started to try to use a spoon herself? You could give her some apple sauce. It will be messy but she might enjoy it.

Hope this helps!

Do feed her whatever you eat! This will keep you from having to fight later on about less healthy choices and her not wanting to eat what you do. As for food allergies, she will either have them or not and you will need to know early on if she has them. We have fed our son everything that we eat from the time he started eating solids. We rarely have an issue with him not eating supper unless he is being a bull headed toddler.

Try bananas and soft fruits as well as steamed veggies. I would shy away from hot dogs and the sort. Larger pastas, especially the ones that you can find made of whole grains or vegetable are great as well.

My son always had what we had. He's 8 now and loves shrimp, mussels, asparagus, brussell sprouts, etc. Definitely don't fall into that nugget/pizza/hot dog trap.
Just make sure she can handle it--small pieces & tender & no choking hazards!

Avocado
sweet potatoe (I microwave it and then slice it)
try some new veggies, steam them a little to make them soft (carrots, peas, squash, zuchinni, etc..
Yes, she can pretty much eat what you eat, just make sure it's appropriate for the amount of teeth she has and or or chewing ability.

I give mine cut green beans and peas from the can (canned with no salt added), large curd cottage cheese, I cut up pears and peaches that are from a can (canned in fruit juice, no added sugar), cut up a sweet potato into cubes and boil it, avacado, tiny pieces of turkey or chicken.

My DD has been getting bits of whatever I am eating since she was 8 months old. (in addition to her purees...) You could also get some of those 'graduates' meals made for toddlers and preschoolers, just cut up the bigger chunks before you give it to her.

I used a "Munchkin Mesh Baby Feeder." You can out put foods that might normally be a choking hazard in the feeder and they chew and suck on it to get the goodness out without choking. I used that to try all sorts of stuff.

My kids love hotdogs and they are good hand held food. Hebrew National aren't quite as gross as the cheap ones.

Smart pasta corkscrews, and penne are good finger food.

Goldfish, animal crackers, other brands of cereal, graham crackers
