How would you handle a child who woke up before anyone else, didn't bother to wake anyone up and snuck downstairs to hunt eggs all by herself, leaving none of the joy for others to share?

What can I do next?

Depends. How old is the child? 3 or 4? Then I would explain we're supposed to wait next time and simply rehide them and let them participate with their siblings. 7 or 8 or older? They should know better and should have to apologize and help hide the eggs and not hunt again while their siblings get to.

Hi N.-

My $%^%^$%^& dog did this today...

***Never get a Labradoodle***

The 'eggs' were OK...just had to get new 'innards' .

In YOUR case...depends on the age of the kiddo.

Hiding the eggs for the other kids to hunt might be fun for her. As I kid, my cousins and I would always rehide our Easter eggs for each other to find after the big family egg hunt. So if you want her to still be able to enjoy the family egg hunt without participating in the actual hunting, then have her help you rehide the eggs. But if you want her punishment to be being totally excluded from the family event, then I would just have her sit out while the other children hunt.

But after re-reading what I just wrote, total exclusion seems kind of harsh to me. I would hate one of my kids to miss out completely on a once a year event, even if she did almost ruin the fun for everyone. I guess to me it would depend more on her age and what you think her actual motivation was for doing it. If she's just young and excited and impulsive, to me that's different than if she understood that she was ruining the fun for everything else and did it anyway.

If we're talking about a school aged kiddo, and not a toddler, I'd confiscate her eggs and Easter basket, and she can spend the rest of the day watching everyone else have fun while she doesn't get to participate.

How old is the child? Depending on the age, I would make sure the punishment fits the crime. Other then that I would re-hide the eggs for the other kids and make sure she is not allowed to participate.

make her give them back, and sit out while the others enjoyed the hunt (after i re-hid them) and not have any for herself.

My youngest son has always done this, no matter the holiday. He stopped doing it when he was about 12, when I guess he must have discovered sleep was more fun to him. in beginning we would get mad at him for it, then decided to pick our battles. it all worked out OK in the end. I should also say that I am referring to my son getting his Easter basket and stocking when everyone else was asleep, not taking everyone else's things.

That was mean.

I would redo the eggs and have the early bird sit out, or like Jaycee said, have her hide the eggs. If she'd already eaten some of the candy, then more candy should be added to the new group of eggs.

depends on how old she is. My nephew once snuck down and ate all the candy out of everyones stockings, the upset tummy he had was punishment enough, lol.
