I'm hosting a Baby Shower May 1st and I need suggestions for designing the invitations and wording.
I asked the momma-to-be about a theme and this is what she wrote:

"earth friendly stuff, wooden toys. all that hippie goodness :)"
"loosely owls, and naturlness:) we like earthy colors.
this is like my fav link ;)

I went to the link and didn't really "get anything" from it besides owls. (where's my mother in laws owl collection she tried to give me??) hahahhaha

thanks ladies!!!

As I mom this what i think. She probably thinks "oh yeah all the old fashion toys are so cool and look so neat." But once she has that baby and needs a break she is going to be glad she got a toy that lights up, plays music, moves and vibrates. haha So I wouldn't go over board with all the hippie stuff. But if she wants her shower themed that way then that's fine. You could have the invitation say something like...Spring has sprung and a new life's begun. with a picture of a egg or chick or a little baby etc. You are lucky with it being spring right now and Eater you could find lots of "earthy" decor at the stores like plants, flowers, little fake bird eggs and trees. You could buy wicker baskets to put all the food in on the table with a center piece of a birds nest with speckled eggs in it. It would be nice and earthy. haha

I love the centerpieces made out of sticks on that website! :)

One of the things I did for a wedding shower that I hosted, but that would work equally well for a baby shower, was to buy a small tree that could be planted and grow with the baby. At the shower, each guest writes a wish for the family and/or baby on a small card (use baby-colored ribbon) that they can hang from the tree branches. At the end of the end of the shower, you send the tree home with the mom-to-be.

This is a company that I love for earth friendly, natural, developmentally appropriate baby toys, etc.

Well, where is she registered? That would be a good place to start as far as figuring out how "hippie" of a hippie she is.
As far as theme, why don't you have a garden theme? Maybe you can paint your own pots and plant a seed? You know, a baby seed?
There are lots of recycled paper products to use for invites. You could easily find an owl stamp at the craft store and make your own. How's your handwriting?

Oh wow! That's sorta vague. As far as the invites, I know I've seen paper with seeds embedded in it-you plant it and flowers grow from it. Try Verseit.com for wording, you might find something good there. Luckily it is spring like the other poster said and it could make it easy to find decorating ideas etc. I know places like Pier 1 and World Market have cute spring stuff right now.
If she really wants earth friendly/kid friendly toys she can register on oompa.com they have a great selection of toys like that. Also babyearth.com and I think locally, Babies R Us carries a pretty decent selection of earth friendly products including G-diapers and brands like Seventh Generation.
