My daughter (6yrs old) just got her ears pierced tonight. She did great! It took a while for her to actually sit down and have it done, but, once she did, she was such a trooper. Luckily, she had both ears done at the same time instead of one at a time. Not even one tear!

How old was your daughter when her ears were pierced?

My daughter is my oldest. I decided to wait until she asked to have them done. I assumed she would be 4 or 5. Nope, she was ELEVEN!!! And she's a tomboy so I thought she would NEVER do it! So as soon as she asked we rushed her over that same day and had it done. lol I'm not a big believer in making those decisions for my kids. And I think they have to wait until they are 18 for any other piercings (including my son) or tattooes. Not a big fan of young boys running around with their ears pierced.

My son was 3 when he asked to have it done. We were already at the mall so we did it that day. They had two ladies so they did both ears at once, and he did great. Now, 4 years later, he still loves his earrings. We have never had issues with them.

3 years old...all went well
she also had both ears done at same time
i was so scared and worried
she cried for about 30 seconds and then never complained
i only did it at such a young age as she wanted them and wasn't scared
isn't that the way it usually is...we as moms worry ourselves sick about so many things our kids go through - and they handle it just fine
hardest job in the world - to be a mom

10.
She was never interested before then, and that was fine by me. I wouldn't have let her do it much sooner anyway... maybe around 9. Before that, she wouldn't have been "up" for the cleaning. Even without ANY infections (she's had them for almost a year now), she still has had some soreness. Sleeping on one ear too long/heavy, putting the backs of certain earrings on too tightly, etc.. can cause soreness. She learned a few things about how to wear them so they don't get sore so easily. If she were younger, those lessons would likely have involved tears and "I'll just take them out".
At 10, that has never crossed her mind.
And I am very happy we waited until she asked and actually WANTED them. She isn't super frilly, okay, she isn't frilly at all, but she wears pearl studs. :) She's my kinda girl!

I was 8 when I got my ears pierced; I had begged for years.

So when my first daughter was born, I had hers done at 9 months at the pediatricians office. When she was 8, she wants a second hole. Now, she has 1 first hole and 1 second hole closed up from wearing crappy jewelry (totally my fault), so when she's ready we'll have at least the first hole repierced.

My second daughter has teeny tiny ear lobes, so I waited until she was almost 2 to get hers done. We went to Piercing Pagoda at the mall. There was only 1 employee so they couldn't do them both at once. She cried after the first one, then the lady gave her a cookie, and she didn't even blink after the 2nd, LOL! She's my super girly girl and LOVES having her ears pierced!

Both of them were two. The first one was pretty much I want this, sat through getting them done one at a time. I had to clean them but it is actually easier on a two year old than constantly asking an older girl, did you clean them, did you clean them, did you clean them.....

My younger daughter had them both done at the same time, she almost teared up until big sis, who was 13 at the time, whipped out a mirror, aren't you beautiful! No tears, just diva. Same thing, easy to keep up with at that age.

I had mine done in fourth grade, no issues either. I really didn't take good care of them and apparently all that care isn't as important as they make you think it is.

My dd was 8

big piece of advice...when she starts changing her earrings, coat the post with triple antibiotic ointment (over the counter). First, it keeps the ears from getting infected and second it helps the post slide right in.

Clean all earrings with hand sanitizer as well as cleaning the ear with the solution they gave you.

Good for her!

My view has always been her body = her choice

My daughter chose to get her ears pierced around 8 and we did it. She had reactions to the posts and in the end let them grow back because of constant irritation. She was very good about careing for them, they just weren't for her.

At 12 or so, she tried it again and has been much more successful. She knows if she wears cheap earrings, she'll get irritation. As long as she is wearing the good stuff she's fine.

She's 17 now.

My daughter asked to have her ears pierced at 4, and I let her. I didn't lie to her that it wouldn't hurt, and even pinched her ear to show her exactly what it wold feel like. She still wanted it done.
They did one ear at a time, and the only problem she ever had was when she tried to wear some cheap earrings after her ears healed and we discovered that she is allergic to nickel.
She got her second set of holes in elementary school, an her third in high school.
People pushed me to have them done when she was a baby, and I refused to have any cosmetic alterations made to her body without her consent.

I had mine done on when I turned 1. My daughter had hers done when she turned 1. Its a culture thing. :)
For my daughter, we had the pediatrician do it with their sterilized equipment. She only cried because the nurse took her away from M.. When they brought her back to me, she was all smiles.
It took about 4-5 days for the skin to seal and about 2 weeks to heal completely, but thankfully it was an easy and uneventful journey.

My daughter just got hers done 2 weeks ago. She is 8 1/2 and has been wanting to get them done for about a year, but was too afraid it would hurt. I was fine with whenever she was ready because I wanted her to be sure she wanted them and be able to take care of them.

She finally decided to do it and, same as yours, no tears, no problem. However... the first couple of days of cleaning and turing them were hard for her. I got some spray Bactine and that helped to minimize any pulling to clean them and she just had to tough it out on the turning. It doesn't last long.

I love the fact that they have different types of earrings that they use for piercing. When I had mine done, long ago, they only had silver balls or gold balls. I remember those getting snagged on my shirts and sweaters before they were healed all the way. My daughter got these adorable smiley face ones that are like button; close to her ear. So much easier!

I think this really depends on your child. I had mine pierced at age 6 with no problems. I cleaned and changed them myself. My daughter had hers done last year at age 8. She did great with the actual piercing. But we changed the earrings out too soon and it hurt her a lot. My SIL insisted that she should be changing them herself which she was not capable of and there was a lot of unnecessary drama. She left the same pair in for months until the orthodontist made her remove them for xrays. After that she refused to put them back in and I told her to let them close. I said that when she gets them pierced again she will be paying for them.

My daughter is 3 and we haven't gotten her ears pierced yet.
I got the first set of holes in my ears when I was 9. It was a breeze. My aunt got them done the same day while we were on a big family vacation.
The second piercing in my ears was at 16. I had been begging to get the second hole for ages but my parents were hard to convince. Again a breeze and I love having them that way.
And, while this is about ears, I got my nose pierced the day before my 34th birthday. Got teased (mostly playfully) by my parents but I love it. It took longer to heal then my ears did and hurt a lot longer while healing. It was a lot more labor intensive as far as care went. But, again, in the grand scheme it was super easy with no problems or infections or anything else. That was 8 years ago.
I keep considering the idea of one more set of holes in my ears but I can't figure out where to put them LOL
We'll let our daughter get them done when she is a little older. Probably around 8 or 9. Largely because before that you can end up with uneven holes and other issues because they are doing such extreme growing in those younger years. You have to sleep with the earrings in for a long while and I just don't want to add that discomfort during the toddler years when we're already having night terrors and all those other fun things. She's not asked. She likes to wear my ear cuffs now and again which just slip over part of your ear for now.

My daughters are 10 (twins) and they still do not have their ears pierced. They have been asking for a few years now. First of all, I have skin allergies and I would get infections repeatedly. I let my holes close back up at 18. I had them done on my 7th birthday.

Given I had so much difficulty, I am afraid that they will too. I just don't think that either of them is responsible enough yet to have them done. I have made a deal with them. They either have to keep their room clean for one month straight or both of them must get all A's on their report card. They have never even gotten close on their room, but I nearly had to give in on their last report cards. One of my daughters got all 90's plus and the other had all 90's except an 89%. I was considering giving in, but the girls told me they would both get all A's next time. I cannot object.

I just hope they'll be able to take care of their ears and jewelry when the time does come.

I was 2 years old. My daughter is an infant. Though I think baby girls with ear piercings are sooo adorable, I'm going to wait until she is maybe turning 12 or 14... when we can go to celebrate her becoming a teen together!
