I have a little boy who just turned 1 and I was wondering if there are any ideas out there on starting to get him potty trained early. I'm not expecting miracles but I thought if I gave him the idea early it would help us in the long run. Any ideas would be helpful.

What can I do next?

I suggest looking into practicing "EC" w/ him, google "elimination communication" and you can read all about it. This might work for you :)

I would suggest this website for info on helping your son to learn the potty. This is another way of bonding with your little one. -----> http://www.WhatisEC.com/

Honestly, I wouldn't push it just yet. I don't see a reason to start him now- it can hurt in the end. If you try to potty train too soon, it can scare him and hinder and futuer training attempts.

If you *really* want to start training him now- buy one of the little potties and put it in the bathroom and have him sit on it when you go. You can buy some potty training books to read to him and/or to have him look at while sitting on the potty.

Don't worry if he doesn't train right away. My boy wasn't trained until he was 3. And really it is what everyone says- just one day it clicks and they just do it on their own.

Hi H.,

I have two older boys, who were both potty trained before they
turned one, maybe it was just luck, but what I did with them was I constantly; like every five minutes would go up to them and ask; using their name...do you have to go potty. I remember feeling like a tape recorder but it worked.

And my youngest now, I would ask him if he had to go potty everytime after I went. And the trick with giving him a book to look at when he sat on the potty seemed to work too. Of course make sure you give lots and lots of praise.

I hope this gives you some ideas. Good Luck
