Ear Tubes Put in Yesterday Question

My daughter yesterday had ear tubes put in during the mid morning. I have a call into the doctors office and waiting for them to call me back. She has had a lot of ear infections. Now today she has been complaining of ear pain. She is up running around being a normal three year old. She is eating today. We even went to the park today since it is warm out.

Should her ears be hurting at this point?

We never got any drops. :(

----

No, she doesn't have enough words to know the difference between feeling weird or hurting. The follow up appt. isn't until next Thursday.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone!

Well the office called back and said this is somewhat normal for a couple of days. Since she had a lot of ear infections. Today she had only complained a couple of times. I think we are in the clear, until her post op check up! :)

Now she is running a temp...and hasn't been eating much. There is an icky cold bug that has been going this neck of the woods.

You said she's complaining of ear pain but also acting like a normal three year old? Well then I'd give her tylenol and let her go. I think we did the drops for 1-2 days (both kids hated them) and that's it. Mine have been fine since getting tubes - no complaints of pain. Maybe she can hear better now so she 'feels' like she's in pain? Be sure to monitor her.

We were given drops to use right after the surgery for a week. Wonder why they didn't give you any. Hope your ENT answers your questions. I am not sure if my DD had any ear pain -- she was 10 mos when hers were put in. Best wishes!

Call and ask about drops.

About her complaints: Does she have enough words to tell you the difference between 'weird' and 'hurting'? It shouldn't hurt. It should be a huge relief.

All three of my kids got tubes when they were 9-12 months old. But my third had some minor problems; one was sort of miplaced and he ended up getting an infection and a 'burst' drum despite the tube. I'm 100% glad we got the tubes, but I bet he probably felt funny in that ear all along.

I'm sure you have a follow-up appointment scheduled; have a throuough discussion then.

There could be some irritation surrounding the tissues. I imagine if it were infected the dr. would have noticed that yesterday. To ease your mind, I hope they call you back!

My daughter has tubes , they were done back in February , and she complained of her ears being sore for a few days afterwards , just make sure you keep up with the drops they gave you and give her pain medicine as and when she needs it.
