Ear Tubes! - Glendale,AZ

My son is almost nine years old and I need to find a good doctor in this area to have his ears checked. He has had tubes twice and while visiting family out of state. The same doctor has said that he needs them again. I want to find a doctor here and get a second opinion. I feel that 3 sets of tubes is ridiculous - especially when he has had no ear infections and his hearing has been tested through a hearing clinic and found to have an excellent range of hearing. If you know af any doctors please let me know - THANK YOU!!!

So What Happened?

Hey just to let you know thank you all so much for your responses & advice I LOVE MAMASOURCE!!! I went to Desert Ear, Nose & Throat and no tubes recommended!! My son does have slight hearing loss in one ear due to scar tissue build up from previous ear infections and surgeries. The doctor believes it to be very minor and was only able to detect loss through a hearing test - but nothing that would require hearing aids or anything like that!! So again thank you all for your advice and support! H. Brantley

That seems a little extreme considering by the age of 12 the tubes become ineffective.
Your other best option....chiropractor! I have been suffering from chronic ear infections since I was a child and my chiropractor very easily solved it.
I use Dr. Matt French at the Gonstead clinic. His office is at 27th Ave and Union Hills Dr. ###-###-#### x4
He has worked on many children. The ears are connected to the spine and it is amazing how a very simply adjustment can help to see a very significant reduction in you child's infections.
Plus Dr. Matt only does an adjustment if it is needed. Give him a call and let him show you. It really does work. My son is scheduled to see him next month so we can avoid the tube route all together.

Hi H.. Depending on where you live I have a great Peditrician that will look at your son's ears and give you a straight forward answer. No beating around the bush. If she feels he needs tubes then she will send you out to a specialist. This woman is great. I refer all my friends to her. My sister also takes her 3 kids to here. Her name is Dr. Neuwirth at Children's Medical Group. It's located at 59th and Thunderbird. Let me know if you want more info.

3 sets of tubes is not neccesarily ridiculous....He obviously got them the first time for a reason, was it chronic ear infections?
Both of my daughters have/had tubes because of chronic ear infections. My oldest has had 2 sets and my youngest has had one. They've been extremely helpful for the health of their ears. But if your son is not having any ear problems, I can't understand why they'd want to put them in again. Maybe as a preventative measure to keep his ears healthy???? I go to Arrowhead Ped's in Surprise, ###-###-####, they also have an office at Arrowhead 67th and Union Hills, ###-###-####. They've been great to my girls and have recommended a great ENT to me every time. I believe it was Desert Ear Nose and Throat.....Maybe they can help you too. I think it's great that you are questioning what you should do for your son, It's worth checking out! And, as a child I had 3 sets of tubes, they were extremely helpful and I still have a tube in one ear. Wouldn't you know I'm in that little percentage of adults who still gets ear infections...It's always the ear that is w/out the tube....Weigh your options and do what's best for your little one! Good Luck to you :) Aimee

Hi H.!
I'm surprised that the doctor is saying he needs more tubes in his ears. My niece had tubes put in her ears when she was little, may be about 4 years old (because of constant ear infections), but after the tubes fell out, which that's what they're suppose to do, she didn't need any more. Usually tubes in the ears are to help drain the fluid that is caught up in the ears. If your son hasn't had any more ear infections and can hear fine, then yes please get a second opinion before putting him thru that again. I've never heard of having three sets of tubes put in. I've worked in hospitals for over 13 years being a pharmacy tech, and also worked in the O.R., and I have to say I've never heard that in my experience. I could be wrong, but please get a second opinion because it just doesn't sound right. Let us know what happens ok. Best wishes,G.
