Ear Plugs for Swimming - Cape Coral,FL

My 4 year old grandson just had tubes put in both ears. I know that this is very common, so I am asking for some help. He has to wear ear plugs when he goes swimming & cannot put his head under water. This is going to be hard for him because he loves to swim & he has a pool at his house. Can anyone recommend a brand or style that really works?

What can I do next?

My son also has tubes and we were told that the only time he has to wear earplugs was in the bathtub or in a lake where bacteria from the water can get into his ear. That a swimming pool that is treated with chlorine or salt water is fine. You might want to double check with the doctor.

My niece had the same thing. They got her this stuff that kinda looks like silly puddy ( really blocks ears) they also make a headband for kids when they swim that is water proof and further protects the ears. She couldn't go "under" the water but we weren't all freaking out is she got her face splashed. Good Luck!

when I was younger we used the moldable wax ones, they worked but I think there are better. I think these days any sports store can fit you with some more "high tech" rubber ones that are user friendly.

I'm an audiologist and the best kind are cutom made with a soft silicone material. An impression of the inside of the ear is taken and they are ordered for him. Theu do run about $65-$75 per pair, but they can be made with his favorite colors swirled together and are very comfortable. If you call an audiologist, they will set up an appoinement to get the imporession done. Let me know if you have any more questions about this. Good luck!

some ENTs say they're not necessary for swimming in pool some say definitely use earplugs.
my daughter had two sets of tubes. the first time we listened to ENT and didn't use earplugs it was awful. 2nd time we used earplgs purchased at target or cvs (they come in kid size they're either green or pink) you don't put them inside just mold them to the ear.
