What is the recommended age for ear piercings? I think she would be so cute with little earrings in her ears, but she's only two months old...not to mention, my eyes fill up with tears when she gets immunizations...

What can I do next?

My pedis office actually does them:) Its a hispanic thing to peirce babies ears when they are still infants. I would think it would be easier to keep them healthy and clean while they are babies than fighting a 5 year old to try to clean her ears. I will definitely be peircing my baby girls ears when she is an infant:) i never had any problems with mine not being in the right position or anything like that when I was growing up and I was only weeks old when my mother had mine done.

I got DD ears pierced at 3 months. She cried a little but I gave her some tylenol afterwards. It is better to get them done while they are young as then they will not pull on it and it is easy to clean them.

My daughters' pediatrician said after they have had their tetanis (or was it hepatitis?) shots. Both of my girls had their ears pierced by three months. My pedi said she recommended that you do them when their still infants because they don't mess with them. By the time they notice they're there and mess with them, their ears are all healed up. I haven't had any problems with either one.

I had my daughter's ears pierced about two weeks after her two month shots...she cried but as soon as she had a bottle she calmed down and fell right to sleep when she finished eating. She's so cute with them in and hardly anyone ever asks if she's a boy or a girl anymore since they notice the ear rings....If your worried about infection, go to where you would gether ears pierced and get the information and papers that you have to read through and sign (that way you dont try to read them in a hurry), also talk to your ped, sometimes they do ear piercings at the office. And if you're worried about her playing with them, my dd has NEVER noticed that they are even there. Just try to go right around a time that she starts to get hungry and make sure that bottle is ready before you sit down to get her ears pierced, and bring a friend of mom/mil if you think you wont be able to handle the pain of her crying. I went to Claire's/Icing they do piercing all day long. Good Luck

I decided to get my daughter's ears pierced while she was still a baby because I remember how scared I was when I had mine done. I wanted to have pierced ears so badly but was too scared to do so for a long time. I still to this day just wish my mom had done it while I was a baby so I wouldn't have gone through the torture of getting up the nerve to do it. I took my daughter to Claire's when she was 9 months old. She only cried for a minute or two and then she was fine. In fact, afterwards we went to a play area in the mall and she played happily. She cried more when I got her picture taken with Santa earlier that day than she did over her ears. She does notice that they are there and sometimes she tries to pull on them. I just keep moving her hand away. She has never pulled the back of them off or anything like that. Everybody says how cute she looks in them. But I am happy knowing that my daughter will not go through the torture that I did of wanting pierced ears and being too scared to get them. If you want to get them done, then I say go for it. You can talk to your pedi if you want or call the place you will have it done and see what their guidelines are about what shots they have to have first.

Some places will make you wait until she is 5 even 7 months, they like them to get their first round of shots. I had to wait til my baby was 7 months and I'm glad I did it when she was that young. She cried really screamed right after but after 5 sec she stopped and was fine, they never got infected and she never pulled on them.

When I asked my pediatrician about our daughter, she said whenever we feel comfortable getting her ears pierced, and she recomended La Lobe on Preston in Dallas. We had our daughter done at 6 months. When I was at La Lobe, I asked them about infants, and they said generally the best age is 3 weeks to 3 months because they pull on them less. We have lost several earing backs from rolling, sleeping, etc. In the beginning, we also had to keep my daughter from rubbing her earings. She's 8 months old now and doing well. In retrospect, I'd probably have them done a little younger, closer to 2 - 3 months.

I know some mothers are concerned with hole movement as they grow older. I talked to the ladies at La Lobe, and between their answers and my own experiece (mine were done when I was an infant), I was comfortable with getting my daughter's ears pierced. I'd recomend talking to your pediatrician, and if you are looking for a place, calling La Lobe with questions about what they do. They were very informative, had verbal and printed care instructions, scheduled a follow-up visit to check on her healing, told us what kind of earings to use on an infant, etc.

All the moms have given good advice, and I would like to add that if you really want to do it go for it I did; However make sure they are nickle free (hypo-allergenic). From personal experience if I do not wear 100% sterling silver or 24k gold I have an allergic reaction. She may cry a little initially but most babies only cry for a minute or two my daughter's eyes watered but that was it. She was 7 months because she was born in Germany they don't do it until yrs, we had to wait until we came back to visit. the only thing that hurts is the initial puncture after that just make sure you check them regularly to ensure they are not to tight or loose. some places will actually use an ointment that will numb the area I know I have been told orajel works for eyebrow waxing and we all know how much that hurts.

I was like you when I first had my daughter. I would see other baby girls with their ears pierced and just felt like it was something I should do. However, I waited. Let me tell you why. It was such a big decision, I actually wanted my daughter to make it. The first time she said yes, she was almost 7 years old. I was soooo excited. We headed to the store picked out the earrings, then right before she was to have them pierced, she began to cry and changed her mind. She wasn't ready. Then, about six months later, we were at Sam Moon and she said out of the blue, I want my ears pierced. With no pressure from me, we went to a shop and had it done. It was very rewarding to watch her "deal" with a decision she had made. I shared in her excitement of getting her ears pierced. She showed everyone. It is something a baby cannot truly experience or enjoy. It was a very special moment. We celebrated her new earrings. But most importantly, she was old enough to understand her decision. I would not have had the day we had if I had had her ears pierced as a baby. She would not have had that day. It is something we still talk about today, 2 years later. Again, just my story. Just some food for thought, Now something someone at Claires told me was, babys ears are still growing. Sometimes when you pierce them this young, the earring might not look like it is in the right position the child is older. Good Luck!

I think they are cute and would like to get them for my daughter, but I have some concerns. Yes they won't pull on them right away but I have seen them pull on them as they got alittle older. My son messed with his years at age 2, and if he had pierced years they would of fallen out.

Another concern as an adult you ever wear earings and they were fine and for some reason the back fall off.
I was worried they see try to eat it.

I decided to wait till she was over the toddler years and
I could teach her to take care of them.
I remember getting my 1st pair at age 5.

I see babies with earrings necklace bracklets
you have to decide whats best for your baby,
I just want to protect her and don't want her to
choke and they will eat everything.

Good luck

Hi S., I waited for my all three girls to turn about four months to get their ears pierced. I got one of my daughters done at Claire's and the others at Wal-mart they both did a terrific job. All I did was hold her and had a bottle ready to give her I felt that they didn't feel as much pain when they where that small and the crying didnt last but 2 mintues. Also they sleep on their backs and dont sleep on their ears and therefore dont hurt. I had mine second holes pierced about 3 years ago and sleeping hurt. If you are concerned about her pulling on the backs of the earrings and swallowing, I recommend the earrings that have child proof backings they twist off and are harder to take off . Like other mothers said they dont fuss when you clean their ears and mess with them at this age. My girls didnt even notice after that, that they had earrings. Hope that this helps. Whatever decision that you make will be a good one for your child!!

I am also a first time mother to a 9 month old baby girl and I would love for her to get her ears pierced so people will STOP calling her a boy!

BUT......my opinion on getting their ears pierced so early is....why put a baby through pain when you really do not have too? I know it's very fast and then it's over with but I ball when she gets her shot's and I certainly would not want to take her and hurt her again just to make her look cute.

Please understand that this is only my opinion and if you want your babies ears pierced and you do not feel like I do then I say GO FOR IT!
